These sound like they will do nicely. Better than the originals, in several cases.

I'll have to assemble them proper, replace the appropriate files, and I'll see if I can get away with editing the ID tags in such a way that I can credit them properly, without fubar'ing Half-Life's ability to play them (some ID3 tags cause Half-Life to flip out for some reason). Should that last bit fail, I guess I'll just credit them in the credits_betapack.txt as per usual.

Dunno about editing all the maps' msarea_music/mstrig_music with the proper lengths though - would turn into a major task. It'd be really nice if the MP3 entity would just look at the file, check the length, and have it proper, without us having to manually enter it. A lot of the music triggers are set wrong already (due to a misunderstanding as to the entity's preferred format), so a lot of the time music is restarting before it finishes, or leaving a lot of silence (though the latter doesn't bother me much).

Okay, so I've *finally* applied all the music ye all found (and be ye all, I mean Hush), which leaves us with four major offenders:

prison.mp3
hp-chess_game.mp3
tikal.mp3
haunted_desert.mp3

The last two I'm gonna have to cry into my soup about... But meh, they gotta go.

Granted, if we don't get Greenlit, maybe I'll just say screw all this effort and roll them back. ;)

While I'm fairly certain you'll be hard pressed to find anything as awesome as Two Step's Tikal and Deadcan's Haunted_desert - I suspect your best bets would be among Matthew Pablo's works, his stuff is pretty damn awesome IMO.

Ya know, Deadcan Dance's Lisa Gerrard is actually a friend of a friend of mine... But alas, it's a record company thing, and a mere blessing from the artist wouldn't cut it. I'm not even sure if she's still alive...

Here is another attempt to replace the remaining copyrighted music files:

hp-chess_game.mp3
--> Telaron - a regular battle (CC-BY 3.0)
http://opengameart.org/content/a-regular-battle

- might be ok, but shorter than the chess_game

tikal.mp3
--> Matthew Pablo - colossal battle theme (CC-BY 3.0)
http://opengameart.org/content/colossal ... ttle-theme

- I guess you found this too when you searched for Mr. Pablo. sounds kinda "epic" but is very different from tikal

haunted_desert.mp3 (obsolete, look at "EDIT2")
--> elerya - nomads (CC-BY 3.0)
http://opengameart.org/content/nomads

- not very happy with that (maybe because its hard to substitute Dead can Dance ;) ), no chanting and the music is relativly basic, oh and very short aswell

I will keep me eyes (and ears) open and hopefully i will find some better replacements, and also a fitting one for "prison", till the end of the weekend.

PS: oh there is also Gray Trip by HorrorPen (CC-BY 3.0) which I somehow like, but don't know where to fit in:
http://opengameart.org/content/gray-trip

EDIT:

tikal.mp3 (second attempt)
--> HorrorPen - Last Minute (CC-BY 3.0)
http://opengameart.org/content/last-minute

- sounds more "tikal-like", but unfortunately gets relativly "calm" in its middle and is quite short.
I guess we have to ask Jaminporlants for his preference ;)

EDIT2 (01.06.2014):

prison.mp3
--> Kevin MacLeod - Black Vortex (CC-BY 3.0)
http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-fr ... UAN1300037

haunted desert.mp3 (second and third attempt)
--> Kevin MacLeod - Desert City (CC-BY 3.0)
http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-fr ... UAN1100564

and

--> Kevin MacLeod - Ibn Al-Noor (CC-BY 3.0)
http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-fr ... UAN1100706

- both of them got a more middle eastern like flair than my first attempt, no chanting but i think at least the second one might fit somehow

IFFY:
These are of unknown origin, or the copyright status of the works is similarly unknown.

barbarian_gladiator.mp3
from "Connan The Barbarian" Soundtrack (iffy)

...

yodoshi1.mp3
from Xena Warrior Princess OST

I found this potential replacement for barbarian_gladiator whilst looking around for music.

Was also considering to use yodoshi1 in one part of my map, but if that one might be replaced I'll probably use edgen_midens_quest instead.

I think Yodoshi is clean now. Can't find any non-expired entries for it at cocatalog.loc.gov or the Jukin catalogs, and Google Vision doesn't seem to have a problem with it (just for YoDoShit, which is clearly something else).

I'll replace barbarian_gladiator with The Legion (bleh, 64bps - maybe I can clean it up/enhance it a bit). The Conan soundtrack is still in play, and will likely be until the collapse of civilization (or until we get sane copyright laws in the US, but I suspect the collapse will come first).

edit: He has a lotta nice tracks, though mostly short and none looping.

Thought we got everything here fixed in the alpha after Hush found us a bunch of stuff - I need to edit the top post sometime. Would help if I actually renamed the files - but meh, so much work to edit all the maps.
