Hello,
I have been trying to get a server up today, and I think I did everything that the tutorial stated, but I cannot get it to work. I dont really know what to put in this so that you guys can help me. I am not getting an error or anything, it just seems like the server wont broadcast to the net.

I can join the server, and I can load my character off of [FN]. But it wont seem to broadcast into the steam games and show up for anybody else. If you need more information in order to help me out just ask and I will try to post it as soon as possible. Thanks for the help.

This is a fairly common issue that some routers have we've never really found a satisfactory way around. All you can do is keep opening ports and pray it seems.

sigh...

Hmm...that isnt good, I am using a fairly common router. The Linksys WRT54Gv2. Anybody else out there that uses this router that has the same problem. Any other suggestions for ports that I might try other than the ones listed in the tutorial.

Yeah, I used to have a Linksys...Now I have a DLink after my network went to wireless...Get rid of teh Linksys, and you'll be able to host properly.

I will never understand how you people manage to not get a linksys to work right

your linksys is fine, if you know anything about port forwarding I would suggest forwarding the needed ports for HLDS.

of course you could just do what I did and put the computer that runs the server in a DMZ, you should be able to find an option for that, just type in the computers IP and make it in the DMZ.

Warning however when putting it in the DMZ your computer will be open to the whole internet, you should be safe as long as you have a firewall installed on the computer itself.

Everyone who has had this issue has had a linksys router, and many of those have tried DMZ. SFAIK you are the only one to ever get a linksys router server to appear on the Steam browser.

If you configure the port the way Thothie has told you to do it and go to the web site where Thothie put for router. it should be simple! If you don't know how then I suggest you to email me or IM me. I can help you out anyway I can.

Thanks to everyone willing to help. I have opened the ports on my linksys router that are required for HLDS, or atleast the ports that the link in the help section suggested. They are currently open and I have turned of the router's firewall. I even attempted to update the firmware on the router, but still no luck.

Ports I opened:
1200
27000 to 27015
27020 to 27039

I also made sure to set up the static ip correctly.

If those ports are wrong, then what are the right ones? Other than that, I do not know what else to try.

Thanks for all the help!

Linksys does have some strange illogical errors... such as some models require you to be the... I don't know the phrase... 'lowest ip' A.K.A, if you're on a network and you aren't 192.168.1.100 you can't host servers properly.

thats just standard networking practice, the "gateway" IE your modem will have an IP address of 192.168.xxx.0, the x's being whatever you network number being. The next up in the list should be your server, so if you used the network number 192.168.0.0 for you gateway, then the server hosting the HLDS should be 192.168.0.1.

Its odd that it would require you to do this, but it also makes sense considering its how its done out in the internet.
