Some guy using my name...............................again!

Hey guys, I've just posted here to tell you that another newb is using my name for some reason. I've chatted to him and his attitude seems to "stink" so if you see "me" ingame and I'm not acting nice, that's probably him. I've managed to get his steam ID which is STEAM_0:0:6484604.

I've decided it's probably easiest to just change my forum name, but for my in-game name, it will remain the same because I really don't want to start a new character again...

Some people might not look at the level as soon as "Dridje" joined the game.

Well it looks like hes just some guy who uses the same alias as you, don't see what the big deal is as hes making it clear hes NOT the same person. Its not like hes pretending to be you, and if there was any confusion somebody could just press tab and see its the new Dridje.

Anyway, since I'm going to be releasing a map, I don't want any confusion between us. I think it's just best if I change my name.

I'm sure there's a hell of a lot of people who share your real name.

I've always hated the "That name is already taken" in RPGs...
If something bad really does happen, we'll know it's not you anyway.

Shuri, can you code something to prevent people to make the same name as someone else? (Though I don't think you can do it now without the dreded character wipe risk)

It would have to have it go through ALL the character files if they wanted to make a new char on FN. Who knows how many resources that would take to do each time they submit a name. Also, people already have the same name on multiple chars.

How about a central server side list with names in use. Whenever you create a character, the name is added to the list and whenever a character is deleted, its removed. I guess it wouldn't add much to the information flow since it would only be checked whenever a character was deleted or created. Only problem would be when manually deleting char files, but I guess that could be fixed too. I don't know much about how the system is set up, but I guess this would take some effort to pull through, if it's possible.
We also need to pull the names of every current char file, and I know some already have the same name(secondary chars, Dridje, Adventurer etc), and I guess it would be a problem.

Not sure if it's really worth it.

That's probably your issue right there Dridge - in which case his story "It gave me that name and I can't change it" makes sense. I suspect you made your own grave here.

If you made it write to a central list of character names everytime someone made a new character, ye might be able to work it. But there's no function for that - or even for invalid name abort, atm.
