Stuttering on monster spawn

Whenever something spawns, the game freezes for a brief second, which I find annoying.

It also seem to stutter randomly when fighting monsters, right before or after a hit (not all the time).

Suffice to say, I run Steam in CrossOver for Mac, so it's an emulated Windows. Running Steam in Parallels just yields disco graphics all over and missing textures.

I can't be bothered to boot directly into Windows (which seem fault free and plays great).

But I was wondering if this stuttering is common on lower end computers - or if anyone has experienced this before and have a solution.

I'd really like to not have to reboot into Windows.

Thanks.

=( I would like to know how ya do that, 'cause I still can't seem to get MS:C running fine in WINE =\ (And CrossOver basically = Wine)

Well, I just double-click the .exe for Master Sword and it installs. It actually finds the Steam location (except the 1.0 install, naturally).

CrossOver has Steam built into the GUI, so you can download and install Steam directly from CrossOver's supported install list, without having to go to Steampowered.com and such.

Only recently they got better support for DirectX (Parallels Desktop also got support now - some games work, some don't), but it's still not that great. Somewhat large FPS losses, and full screen is Hell, because of the menubar and the dock in Mac OS X.

Nope no errors. Just stuttering and low FPS at times.

Mind you, Steam reports my DirectX version as version 6.14.

Didn't we fix this?

It *used* to be, if a bunch of monsters spawned at once, you'd lag to hell for a split second, especially on listenservers. (They'd all try to use the same memory area the same time and get parsed out by the engine.)

The new system (that we've had for a few months now) split up the spawns so they are about 1/10th second apart, which seems to have removed the lag (at least, on my system).

If you are STILL lagging when monsters spawn, I've no idea what else to do.

with the new spawning system you still get a little stuttering on some servers when a ton of monsters spawn, but it's minuscule. when only a few monsters spawn you don't even feel it. it's nothing like before when everything would stop for like 5 seconds.

<sigh>... I guess it's rebooting into Windows again for me, until they get better support for 3D Gaming in the emulational world.

Psh... My Mac is a PC. I simply reboot ;) (Don't even have to - Windows in a window is fun).

Ah, of course I can swap it into full screen as well.

What's even better is the "Coherence" mode, which allows me to have Windows windows (heh...) open as if a window in Mac OS X.

Take a look at screenshot:

Anyways, I've solved my problem by formating an external 2.5" disk to store my game folders (I could use MacDrive to have Windows read +HSF disks, but at the risk of a viru sinfecting it... nah...).

However, if someone has found a resolution to the stuttering fix, do tell.
