So before that, it was basically impossible to have a perfect finely crafted knife on an MS: C char...

...because the game wasn't out yet.

But it's really true that the weight got decreased in the latest patches, in 06 you could just equip your full armor set, a blade, a bow and a maul and that's it, more items and you were too heavy.
