My suggestion before you continue is to work on your brush work. Use this time now while making a terrain map to learn as much as you can about making fairly realistic rock shapes that aren't invalid solids. Nothing brakes you in better on how and what works with brushes as a terrain map can. The quicker you can learn this main important thing, it will change your entire map to a brigther and more pleasing result, as opposed to just brushing over the possible chance to learn (pun intended) and therefore continue your map with a "handicap" so to speak. Creating brushes that won't be as pleasing to the eye and functional, generating errors continuously during your development time. Also, learn about the triangle method of creating terrain, it's the safest and most artistically favored way. But everything has it's limitations. All the best for your custom map.
On another note, the .fgd is included with Master Sword : Continued. Example
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\[email protected]\half-life\msc\dev\ms1.4.fgd
ms_mines has a tundra in it, (I kno, because I made it), on the other side of the mines. I dunno if u can reach it yet, but play it and get ideas. Tundra's generally are barren and have no trees.
