I know its been an "issue" forever, but what is the fascination with it recently? I could understand handing extra items to friends to help them out and such, but really... tossing rares to new players to spite people on the forums?
I wouldn't really care that much, its just that A LOT of people have come up to me recently and said thats its a game breaking issue. I know back in the ms_snow days I had about 15 GiBs at one time, but I didn't go to thornlands and hand them out. Maybe its because I wasn't craving the acceptance of new players because 90% of the vets hate me, like some people... who knows.
Whatever the reason, I do believe that giving new players every item they could ever want is not a good thing for them. Sure, its nice to give stuff out and all, but think about it for a full minute. It really does ruin a lot of their experience with this game, and it takes the fun out of it. And if you're willing to ruin the game experience for other players, then you don't belong in this community, go sit in the corner with Vlad.
As a preemptive response: No I'm not overreacting to this issue. In my experience, people that end up with everything the first week of playing usually quit within the month.
