It would be cool to see Unique/one-of-a-kind items or at least super rare and limited in quantity (golden wrench style).

Unique Items:

Sword-
Blunt-
Axe-
Fist-
Bow-
Knife-
Spell-(perhaps one for each element)
Shield-
Armor-
Helm-
Ring-
Other-

(Basically one or couple for each item type in the game except consumables)
(I'll move ideas from this thread to the main post for easy viewing access.)

*PROBLEMS*

Newcomers/low level players would have a low chance of getting one the items compared to duper high players.
*cough* zeus *cough*

How do you make it where only one can be found? (if one is the decided amount)

Would they be randomly available in any chest in the game or rare drop on such and such boss or bosses?

Is this a decent idea or is this just plain uncalled for?

What do you mean? As in, you would find a Golden Calrian's Mace or an entirely new type of weapon? I think finding a golden version of an existing weapon would be more plausible. Perhaps have a chance of any weapon created being a golden weapon. Of course, that would require large amounts of skinning and probably coding/scripting.

Meh, doesn't sound like a BAD idea, just something that we won't focus on right now as there's lots of features we're adding that bring a lot more to the game.

PA is unique? Everyone and their mother has one, and if they don't, they can certainly get one with a bit of work.
I've rejected two sets of it. :/

Wth do u mean with that? It's not like im greedy or w/e you are pointing out there. Besides, i dont give a fuck about these items you are suggesting, unless they would be rare versions of decent weapons that i currently use.

I do believe you forgot the felewyn shards. Ethereal dagger too i'm guessing. Also dont think that Lrod qualifies this group anymore, since it spawns frequently

Yeah, I figured people weren't going to care unless the items actually DID something. A weapon that has the same stats as the Rusty Short Sword, but is golden (or something) isn't going to attract people. They may take it out in front of certain people to show off a bit, but no one is really going to care. Since you don't care about the weapon, you're not going to bother trying to find any.

Introducing weapons that are of higher grade than the ones we have is silly, as it's just the same as releasing new weapons.

If there's the chance of any weapon/armor being goldplated, it will mean that somewhere out there, your favorite weapons and armors are golden. There would be a reason to go after them. Of course, this would just increase grinding a hundred fold :\

Felewyn shards are not really hard to get and I have five spare ethereal daggers in the BoU guild bank. I got another one today in the_wall but I gave it to Meatwad (omg twinking!!!1!)
Lightning rod... debatable.

These aren't unique to me, they are just rare. Any high level player worth his/her salt will have most of those.

"Unique", IMO, refers to items that are named, not described.

Sting - unique sword from lord of the rings

Lightning rod - rare electric mace

Excalibur - unique/legendary sword of King Arthur

Helm of the Dead - rare helm that does nothing

Semantics aside, unique items would almost have to be one-of-a-kind, but be available to lower levels and even later newcomers some how.

It was a joke, not a personal attack. You were the first high level player to come to mind, we'll all know you are a nice guy.

How much was it? 25% or 30% resistance to attacks from undeads?

Unique items... well could be some one of a kind thing that only one character on FN can hold at a time, and wont spawn for any other player unless the weapon is disposed of, or the player is challenged to some unquestionable PvP for its posession.

You know, some weapon that is only known trough rumours from other players an not spoiled from the changelog.

You know you don't have to read that part of the changelog...?

Anyway, rather than post lists of rare items, image-only replies and one-liners, I will now finally give my two cents on this 'unique item' idea.

I think it's downright worthless. Why? Obviously because only very few people will have it. All the others won't have anything awesomely unique at all.
The fix? A boatload of different unique items. Take Borderlands for example. If some person who's in my game gets some really rare gun (colour code: dark orange), I won't be sad that I didn't get it. Why? There's dozens of really rare guns you can get. But they're all different, so they all feel rare. That being said, the only way this unique item idea would work in my opinion is if a very large amount of different unique items were added at the same time.

Something we were looking into was a weapon mod array, kinda like Diablo, where nearly every "base" weapon has a series of randomized adjustments, thus nearly every weapon is unique, after a fashion, and folks could trade amongst themselves with those.

We've currently no way to setup an item that is totally unique in the FN hosted world, however. Otherwise there'd only be 5 Felewyn Shards in the entire game world, vs. sixty players with over 90 shards between them (presumably coupled with some system where they would 'expire' and free up if one of the owners didn't play for two months or something).

In the early days, there were many items that had a 1 in 200 spawn chance, and folks still managed to farm dozens of them. While we don't have anything that rare anymore, we do have several items that take an insane amount of work to gather, and people manage to have dozens of those too. So before ya go there, it doesn't matter how rare or how difficult we make an item to get, a handful of twinker kids will farm the f*ck out of them and pass them out everywhere, everytime.

I agree with this. One of the best things MSC could do for itself is to have a good 20 or more items as rare as the helm of the dead. I think a small minority of these items should be somewhat worthless (like helm of the dead) and a small majority should be very useful (like AoB).

And what's the solution to this? Nerfing spawn chances on current items, of course. Which is something most don't really want to hear. Of course, I'd rather just have twenty brand new, super rare items but we don't have enough modelers for that.

What follows is a list of items that I think drop too frequently:
Lrod
Hoarfrost Shard
AoB
Envenomed Plate
Acid Plate
Aura of Fire
Gold/Dark Armor
Dragon Axe
Torkalath Bow(s)
Helm of Fire Resistance (Biggest offender)

And a list of Items I think currently have a perfect drop rate:
Helm of the Dead
Tork Blade
BloodDrinker (there should be at least one 'good' weapon that is easy to obtain for every category and a number of cooler items that are harder to get)
Tomahawks
Darksword
Ushield
Rune Shield
Freezing Sphere
Phoenix Armor
Helm of Cold Resistance
Greater Ice Blade
Neck Hunter
Ethereal Dagger
Demon Claws
Bear Claws
Thornbow
Bludgeon Hammer
All of the items in old_Helena (with the important exception that a player should only be able to obtain one at any given time. There are too many noobs with less than 50 HP who carry a BoH)

And finally, a list of items that do not drop frequently enough:
Good potions

Not to be rude, which is pretty much all I can be with what I'm going to say, but it sounds like you just want to have every item you can, and plenty of them to make sure everyone gets a share of the good stuff and noone misses out.
I have no problem with having say 20 purely unique(1) items in this game that only spawn once in their lifetime so only one person in the entire game is in possession of said item. You could only own one of the unique items at a time, and would have to trade for another that you wanted, else you'd not be allowed to obtain any others. It'd have to have some sort of check in case that item disappears, maybe even the "delete if not play" flag, but having a sense of "I'm cooler than you" is always an integral part of my game. I've never been able to reach a point in any game I've played where I can say that, nor do I expect to ever reach that point, but items like these would be cool to me.

Paying more attention to what JM said, every high level in this game has multiple copies (If they so choose) of every high-end item in this game. They have all they need, it would be a way to add something they WANT. The trading system we have now boils down to "I'll give you my five copies of this item if you give me that item so I can put it in my bank." This would give people something to trade for, though I doubt anyone in the game would actually trade an item so rare, because like I said, they already have all the items you'd trade for, unless say, they traded it for a different unique. Very few people will have it, right, but wah wah, Heavy says cry some more. I have no problem not having some intense, awesome looking(/awesome power'd) item that someone else has. You might think "Well if everyone can't get it, the game not balance, becaws they has it we don't" and you'd be right, but oh well? Sucks for you? It's not like you didn't have the chance to get it, unless you were asleep when the item was implemented and someone like Zeus ( ) was already online for 80 hours straight farming for the item you wanted while you slept for 7 hours (Yeah, Zeus is just that good.)

Thoth, I think he means unique in a different way. A Tork Blade with a fire enhancement is still a Tork Blade, in essence. I think he's looking for something flashier, to mark the player as special

The hell is up with everyone pointing me out on everything now... >_>
Haven't played for around 2 weeks now on FN, and i never spent alot of time farming items for myself. Most spare items i get are requests from certain players that i keep in mind or simply just get a spare for my alt, when i get items not related to both of these conditions i usually trade them away for potions and ammo.
Want proof that i havent wasted much time getting the 1st of each new item for myself? Go ask the other high/very-high lvl players for how long it took them to get bear claws for example. I only did 1 the_wall solo run and got them 1st try, no farming required.

Topic-related:
Anyways, aren't the apostle weapons meant to be like that? If i recall correctly, they aren't meant to be obtained so easily, and in the end, the stock on these would be quite limited to few players... right?

I just point you out when I refer to people who play MS:C a lot, because I recall when I first added you on Steam, the only game I ever saw was MS:C when I looked at your name, and it seems like you were on a lot.

Paragraphs 2&3 covered the impossibility thereof (everyone would shortly be "special"). Paragraph 1 described closest thing in the pipe.

Unique items would require a much more expanded world than we currently have (so that a unique item isn't farmed, so much as stumbled upon or specific circumstances are met to entitle the weapon) and probably more gameplay choices than simply farm for the next newest weapon. The felewyn blade or even the felewyn shard as it was intended was supposed to be a unique weapon, like all apostle weapons. However, with our socialistic, greedy, and impatient player base that plan was fucked up royally. If thothie's "currently no way" was fixed with a coder that wouldn't have been an issue...

The way it's heading now though every single player will end up being an apostle. Humanity is now, apostle squad! Squish them gods! Who could've foreseen the incredible ability of human resolve to surmount any obstacle, including obtaining a legendary unique weapon which now every human has?! Their technology boggles the mind!

You could implement "unique" items if there were devs that went around creating unique quests for players, and if these quests were the only source for such items.

I think this actually occurred back in MS (not MS:C).

Seems like it would tie up a lot of time that would be best spent working on other things though.

I don't necessarily know if this is true. I have never seen one noob (barring alts) walking around with HotD or Freezing Sphere Scroll. Sure, they all have every item of moderate rarity, but the truly rare stuff seems out of the reach.

Also, some items could be made untradeable. This should be reserved for story related items, like the Felewyn Shard, Blood Drinker, or AoB. This would force players to at least run all of the lore/story related maps before they get their hands on something truly useful.

It would also be useful in another way. If only players who beat lodagond 4 could carry blood drinkers, when person with no BD goes to shad palace runeghar could be missing, as was originally planed if i recall. However, if there is someone in the server with a BD runghar will be present at the boss fight and allow you to go to sorc villa (peacefully). No BD = no (peaceful) trip to sorc_villa.
