I guess I won't mention the fact that the castle in Crow's highlands_msc is also actually copied from a different MS v1.35 map.

That's a lie actually... (Okay, a misperception) - The castle in Crow's map and the similar looking castle from another MSC map (the name of which escapes me atm) are actually scaled and structured entirely differently. Just because you use little blocks to make your battlements, doesn't mean you stole something. (I think we all did that with building blocks or legos in back kindergarten, tis kind of a natural response.)
And now for the facts:

Here is an in-BSP Viewer screenshot of the map "castle" for MS v1.35, once made by KaneMCN, also known as Kane (I still have this information in a very important text file):

Lack of actual textures can be explained by the fact that MS: C is currently not installed on my computer.

Anyway, it's the same castle as you now probably see. Or at least, almost the same.
Crow copied it, then he deleted half of it, he changed the gate, he removed that funky thing above the gate, and he altered the two ladders inside the towers. Next to that it's almost exactly the same castle.
How do I know? For starters, I can see it. Secondly, Crow actually told me once that he copied KaneMCN's castle from the map castle.
Q.E.D.

Hey, if I copy Someplace Else, retexture it and release it, will that count as well?
If you stick some monsters in too - YES! :p
I don't do copy+paste.

Thothie said:
Besides, aren't the only maps you've ever even offered to work on merely remake/copies of Crow's work? :p
No - I also offered to finish Wicard Oven, but replica did that instead.
But yeah, I did offer to remake Crow's Riverwind/Goldmoon maps because they're plain fun. I also spoke with Crow about it a while ago and he had no problem with it. The only thing I'm copying is the concept and parts of the layout. Everything else (such as the actual brushwork) is my original work. Your point being?

I want releases as well, but I don't really like copy+paste jobs, and I am somewhat surprised that Crow, who surely has enough talent to make his own stuff, has to resort to copy+paste. But whatever, maybe my opinion isn't appreciated. If that's the case, Durak, then you can go... oh wait, who the hell are you anyway?

Ah, I R mistaken. Last time someone told me he referenced some other map entirely, and the only real similarity was the boxes on top and some flags.

Suffice to say, release > redudant work, so kudos to him for doing that, or we likely never would never would have had CotBG - hands down the most epic custom map series we have.

Plus I really, *really* hate to see artwork like that go to waste. I mean, if someone's done the work in some other dead mod or unfinished map somewhere - TAKE IT. Otherwise it's painstaking work that just gets tossed into the void where no one will ever see it. Credit the artist, surely - but don't waste your time re-doing something that's been done better in the name of originality, when perfectly good work is rotting away.

You have a valid point here.
Also, for the people who didn't figure this out (probably that Durak guy):
- I do not dislike Crow. In fact, I think he's the best MS: C mapper by far.
- I do not dislike Highlands and/or the Curse of the Bear God series.
- I can't wait for Lodagond parts 2, 3 and 4, even though there's copy+paste stuff in Lodagond 2.

However,
- I have never seen Crow give credit to KaneMCN (because of the castle).
- Someplace Else (the map Crow is using for Lodagond 2) is, in my opinion, hands down the best Goldsource map ever made (fantastic gameplay/architecture). So Crow had better give credit to Adam Foster (the author, obviously) when he releases Lodagond 2.

I've said my peice on this somewhere, but in anycase, yes, this was my reasoning.

Edit: Btw, thanks, these heated mapping debates make me want to map. Motivation has been hard to come by lately :(

I've been playing MS since a few years before MS:C. I don't care if you know who I am. You may think the world revolves around you but you don't affect me in the least. Hell, you haven't even released any useful content that I know of like all these guys are doing.

Nice assumption. I post that you're a whiner and you think I'm ignorant.

Keep up the good work Crow :).

I don't think I have ever played one of Crow's maps. They look nice though, so keep motivated and whatnot.

Lowlands, highlands_msc, lostcastle_msc, orcplace2_beta, skycastle, ww1, ww2b, ww3d and maybe in MS v1.35 riverwind1, riverwind2, goldmoonnorth, goldmoonsouth, goldmoonspawn and underkeep? You haven't played any of those? You are missing pure quality and the most appreciated/awesome map series (first five maps mentioned = "Curse of the Bear Gods" map series) ever.

Yes, but you used imageshack. Slow-loading phayl.

But seriously, Imageshack loads so amazingly slow, I don't know why any one uses it. Photobucket is a lot better. >.>

photobucket requires an account =\

Haha same. I don't feel like signing up to host images when I can already to it with no effort required.

Re: WW2:Lodagond-2/3/4 [WIP]

Alright, so I changed them to photobucket, and aparently photobucket doesnt have thumbnails, so that means im going to have to steal thumbnails from imageshack and paste in the link from photobucket.

I know, poor me.

In other news, photobucket is slower for me. Figures.

I dunno, maybe it's just me, then. o_O I've never had imageshack load in under 10-15 seconds.

Re: WW2:Lodagond-2/3/4 [WIP]

Awesome. One question though, are all the Lodagonds going to have their own element? Lodagond-1 was ice, and it looks like Lodagond-2 will be fire.
