Isle has been released (will be part of the next package hopefully) and I'm going to start a new mapping project or take over one of the abandoned WIP maps (I was thinking Village). That or* I am going to make my own map that I have started a little work on but have no general idea as to what to compose it of.

So far I have made a forest gathering that has a wooden mine shaft that will lead to some sort of long and tedious wooden mine that is infested with orcs. Nothing else has been planned out yet.

Has this been done too many times? Suggestions will be helpful.

What about a 'tutorial' type of map? Where new players are introduced into the world of msc and all the different kinds of weapons and such.

Taking my ideas are we?
If you did make it, you would have to remember to add all the basics. The map would have to be fun also. A bunch of boxes=Boring. Good luck if you do decide to make it.

Here's an idea for a map; Lets say this map takes place inside a low-medium level forest, something that acts like thornlands, and somewhere deep inside this forest is a temple. To access the temple is through it's large thick doors which are closed and "broken", so the only way in is to smash the doors. Instead of the method were it has 500hp and until you do 500 worth of damage it breaks, it would have a requirement of 500 points of damage, and until you can do 500 points of damage in one swing, you cannot access the temple (Temple being a high level area).

Is it possible? Because I figured that would be a cool idea :D

Oh, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a temple in a forest, doors being the breakable. It could be a cracked wall in a castle/cave or a fallen tree blocking a path and whatnot.

I hardly make it around to most of the threads on the forums and did not know that you had already considered doing such.

Isle is a free-roam type and they take a long time to develop. I wanted to make something quick and easy and fun- and having a tutorial map would help newbies learn how to play (since edana is just...edana)

Not like the idea was hard to think up, anyway. I had my own idea for a whole coded tutorial mode, but meh. Everyone has that idea at one point or another, I suppose.

This would be a simple "hit the target with the bow" step-by-step tutorial and would come with an open prairie to train

The tutorial map I was thinking about would be like a very very very low level map which you solo and as you go through it you learn all your stuff. I was thinking maybe that the player would either go into a temple and explore it while trying to find a rare object or a map where the person is a recruit for the Deralia guard or something and they learn while training for an orc invasion.

I would like a tutorial map to make the player think "Wow, I want to see more of this game."

I always thought that a map should preface edana, specifically for tutorials, and that people would have to start on that level, impractical as that sounds.

i think it should be an optional tutorial for those wanting to learn how to play before really starting, like the HL1 hazard course.

I think I'll stick with the concept of a 'Hazard' Course type of tutorial map. I just have to learn how to use npcs and talk scripts...

I can send you some sample scripts, but I dunno what you think Edana and its signs are failing to cover.

I never learned how to play in edana... ok, if not a tutorial, another free roam map? I've already built the basis for a classic free roaming map.

Gave up on the 'tutorial' map then? If you have, I may try making one as my next map.
