Please tell me that someone is making a skin for the Insane Wizzard. It is a little undramatic when he looks just like olof from the Thornlands.

No shit it's half-life, i've been modding for it for years, mostly modelling. I know for a fact you can get some decent polycounts in the game.

No **** it's Half-Life, I've been modding for it for years, mostly mapping. I know for a fact you can get bumpmaps in Half-Life and mods.

But do we need bumpmaps? Nah... won't be too good for performance either. Do we need models with as many polygons as the engine can take? Nope, because that won't be good for performance also.

Yes, Vomika7, I literally said bumpmaps are possible. Then you drop by and say bumpmaps are possible.

Something's not right here :mrgreen:

Edit: And those bumpmaps are amazing in terms of quality for Half-Life. Especially in the first pic, you can clearly see that's a bumpmap.

But nowadays, people are used to the ultra-sharp bumpmaps found in Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and Quake 4, or even the uber-sharp bumpmaps and parallax maps found in Serious Sam II and F.E.A.R.... so relatively speaking, the Half-Life bumpmaps don't look very good, if that's what you mean :p

I also think you can only have bumpmaps on wall textures - not model textures (or at least, there's no internal function for it - maybe possible with some mod coding). Even the wall texture thing is kinda screwy, and requires the client set a cvar (r_detail or some such).

Detail textures aren't bumpmaps, they are detail maps. They are a greyscale image that is overlayed on a texture to show additional detail when up close, nothing like bump maps at all.


Also, I'd much rather use the necromancer model we have, rather than take a model from another defunkt project.

Personally I'd rather save decent artwork than let it go to waste - but I'm not the guy who has to model for ya.
