It may sound weird - but I suggest using no mapping tutorial and learn by yourself, your mistakes and the help people can provide you (I'm doing this - and it's a lot more fun, but of course, you might need tutorials for SOME advanced things).
There's also a thousand good links in the mapping tutorial sticky.
Problem is, there's a lot of bunk tutorials out there, so be ready to unlearn any habits you pick up. Looking at, and taking apart good sample maps is probably the best way to learn.
It'd be nice if you could find non-copyrighted music, as my content server has to host the map contents, and it is on a commercial host who may do bad things if they find copyrighted MP3's there.
There are several places you can find good, PD adventure music, or at least amateur produced adventure music for which you can get permission. Music for particularly old, foreign made games, is usually okay, but not preferable.
Some games (like Oblivion) use music that was PD to begin with. You'll have to check the MP3 info and EULA.
I know it's not as great as commercial music (since it's techincally nothing but a step above current midi)but I did do the music for Rickler's recent assault of maps and will gladly lend my services. If in the end you don't like them you can always go with something else.
