This patch requires either JAN2007a or b be installed, just replaces the dlls. I'll go into more detail in the patch thread.
I have you on my list of three people that can't run RIPENT/HLCSG so here's also a link to that 24MB bloat map patch (it's back one page in the map updates thread): http://www.thothie.com/msc_dev1/bloated ... N2007b.zip
I've still not got around to hunting down older versions of those proggies.
1. Now running JAN2007C
2. server now resets to edana after 30 min if no one is playing in it
4. Added the ability to use voice, my network should be able to handle it
5. setup speech to actually work so everyone can hear it.
yarr I feel all left behind in all these updates. Hopefully there is enough other servers to cover for mine.
Well once I get home from school here I will be sure to update the server with the new map, beta pack, and of course update other little things.
and for thothie's concern about SSE2 I can tell you right now my CPU does not support it, well the server at least. SSE2 wasn't integrated into AMD CPU's untill the AMD 64 line, all AMD XP line CPU's have no SSE2 instructions. Well maybe a few but rule of thumb would be they don't
I'll make that the default MS.DLL later, and leave the SSE1 & 2 optmized DLL's in there as zip files for those who want them. (Maybe actually make the installer give you the option next month).
I'll be re-uploading the betapackage with the MS.DLL linked above later today (just kinda cruel to upload large packages with 8 players on your server).
I am running server 2003 evaluation edition, and its getting rather close to the expiring date. When it does expire I am not sure what it will do, however I do know that I really need to restart the silly computer it hasn't been turned off once since I started using it as a server again, been in non-stop operation for at least 2 months straight. I fear that it won't turn back on because the evaluation time is so close to being over.
I am will hopefully gain the full version soon, when I do there will be a week of down time while I set the server up properly, and test it a whole lot. I know my server can perform better I just didn't want to set it up yet. I am sure everyone has experienced those crazy lag spikes.
*EDIT*
Almost forgot, but is skycastle fixed yet? Them darn chests still have issues spawning on my server. Also Thothie is there a way to find out if your ripent is actually working?
In the coming weeks my server will be coming down, I have some much needed overhauling that needs to be done. Hopefully I can solve the random lockup issues, and any other minor lag issues with my server.
Because of this massive overhaul is there any specific feature that people would like for my server? IE the type of votemap.
on a side note you may now shoot trolls with arrows again.
I have brought my server down for some much needed fixing, I am finally getting around to reinstalling the OS and optimizing it better for CPU performance to help with lag and such.
Along with that some minor hardware changes, and a good cleaning.
I hope to bring the server backup up within the next day or so, there is chance however it could end up being all the way into next weekend, but I think I can do it way before then.
I will again ask if there is anything special/changes you would like my server to have?
I think I squashed most of my lag bugs caused by the old OS, so everyone should find better stability and better ping. just for your knowledge I switched from server 2003 back to windows XP SP2 to run on the server. Not like it really matters the difference between the two operating systems is negligible.
Also if you do come across any issue with lag or the such please let me know.
Blasto,
I have run a server on my computer few times. The ping is great on windows xp sp2. I am going to make this computer into a server once I build another computer. Any suggestion what my next computer should be?
I hate to say this but go with an intel ,core duo, avoid the quad core its a rip off. They can say its quad core only because it has two dual cores on one chip
Either way its not a true quad core with each core being its own.
However I personally, highly recommend waiting. I only say this because DDR 2 ram is already obsolete, both AMD and Intel know this! However they also knew that clever marketing would get it to sell. I would try and hold out untill DDR 3 releases which is oh so much faster!
however for the now computer, intel board with an intel duo should do nicely, as for video cards, I would suggest the 8600GT should be releasing soon starting price 250$ the next gen mid range card, if to much go for a GeForce 7950 they should be a good buy by now. Just avoid ATI they aren't all that good right now, hopefully AMD will be able to turn them around, they already made getting ATI drivers a billion times easier.
if you are going to get DDR 2 ram at least get the fastest... otherwise its a waste of money.
I am having serious issues with my server, I am sure no one has really noticed with FN down so much lately. Hopefully I can get it fixed here shortly but I think the issue is deeper than just a configuration problem...
Well hopefully I can figure it out.
On a side not I am still willing to help out with hosting the FN server, clearly the server in its current state won't help much but when it is being nice to me I am willing to help.
*Resovled*
I think I figured it out.
Zone Alarm my have been the problem, so for now zone alarm is uninstalled. I guess i will need to figure out a better way to configure zone alarm so it works better with my other software, possibly find a diferent fire wall all together.
It has come the time to shut down the server has come, I will no longer be hosting any MSC games, if I do it will not be a 24/7 server like before. My server has moved on to an even greater task!
the new Central Server, things will be the same for today and the rest of the week, I am just to busy to sit at home and look at this stuff right now. (that and my mom is dragging me to the coast to spend the weekend there)
I am sure no one noticed the switch but FN is now running on my server.
This thread my be closed and thrown away no longer is this needed.
Eh, I'd *try* running both for a bit. It maybe with all the code changes we've made, they may no longer conflict. Last time we tried was back in January '06.
The Central Network itself takes up next to no resources, tis just they didn't like each other then, for some reason 'er other.
I would run it, however if I am going to have people tunneling into the server I don't want to be running the server, otherwise lag spikes will plague the server. My connection is good but not that good.
