Personally I feel like my uhh strength comparison to players of equal spent time isn't that equal but I think its rather fun being one of the only wizards in the game so I like the difficulty to level it. I dont think any more classes are needed just would be interesting if we got more spells to continue leveling around SC 21+ (Its pretty hard to do ice in the high 20's...blizzard just doesnt get the xp if your anywhere but foutpost.) And usually by that time you don't want to be doing foutpost all day you'd rather be farming the higher rewarding maps.

there's just some issue with damage over time that doesn't doesn't give you exp otherwise blizzard would give you full exp per kill.

off topic

[offtopic] I was thinking new some abilities with SC that would be cool would be being able to summon awesome weapons of a type of magic. Like summon an even better Ice Blade that hits high, but only lasts a short while and does a GiB style freeze with 75% of the hits. All the damage would go to Ice XP. Make it take a lot of mana to summon, like 350 and make it 20+ SC. [/offtopic]

That sounds like an apostle kinda thing, no? IF for anything we need an ice weapon that levels ice magic, since every other category (Except lightning, which doesn't need it anyways) has a weapon that does this.

I don't like the idea of using "Fire, Ice, Water, Earth, Wind, Life and Death".

I like how we have Divination and Affliction, for example.

It could, however, work to sort of split magic into two categories (as with Axe Handling and Swordsmanship, though both are melee weapons).

Elemental Magic, which allows you to manipulate the elements, and another category I have yet to name, which features more "divine" magic such as Affliction, Divination, Enchantment and so on and whatnot.

But I think the general life and death and the elements sounds too plain.

Evaan, what you just described is the magic system in the Final Fantasy series, Black Magic being elemental, and White magic being healing, buffing, and afflicting... Just fyi :D

I think what Evaan was trying to say is, have a category that deals with your typical element stuff, and a category that deals with gods, dieties, spirits, the Lost, the Apostles, the three Loreldians, Lor Malgoriand, "fate", etc.

All magic "deals" with fate >_>

Magic is, as per Lanethan, in fact a weaker form of fate control.

So, reletive to the idea of Dark Magic being implemented in WITH everything we already have... Is this idea toast?

What I'd like to see the most is every elements separated in single skills. Like Instead of global SC requirements, new spells would be based only on it's corresponding skill. This way, not everyone would be forced to use everything. Except for summons, they could be based on the player's max MP unless single element skill requirements could be added without breaking the SC category.

so what you're saying here...is that we should have some sort of division between...arcane and divine? *waits for revenir/thothie/others*

If we add a new magic subcategory, I want it to be Procrastination. Spells include I'll Do It Later, which makes the target return to whatever it was doing before. I imagine it'll be quite hard to train, though.

Yes, divide Divine and Arcane.

It's solely for style only, just as you're just a great a warrior choosing Sword as you are choosing Axe, yet, you train in the specific weapon lines, not a dedicated "Melee".

It allows for more roleplay as well. Someone who wants to be the traditional fireball tossing mage can train in Fire Magic and whatnot, while the more divine Cleric or a Sorcerer, may call upon the power of the gods.

While you manipulate fate in any way, it's how you do it that classify your mage, just as your weapon of choice classify you as a fighter.

It's more "noble" to use a sword and shield than it is to swing a maul around.

Lol, all these spells are from WoW.

I have a level 42 Warlock there and i recognize all this.

The reason why i play this is to get away from WoW, these spells make me want to kill something.

:| those arn't really spells, their catagorys and even so i say WoW stole most the stuff off FFXI, which came out several years before WoW did...

They have similar names to spells in WoW (Fear, Shadow Bolt), but WoW didn't invent Dark Magic, or any other type of magic for that reason.

I'm pretty sure they were first seen in D&D. The nerd utopia O:

I just think it's pretty funny when people say "This came from this video gaem(even though it's based on this game which was based on this one which was ultimately based on D&D)!!!1!111one"

If you want to be pickey enough, it goes back to the beginning concept of magic on earth, if you want to equate everything to D&D in MMO's, you could, but that would be boring and D&D isn't always the best example of spells and effects, considering it's tabletop and, well, this isn't.

Knee deep in shit
The whole concept for schools of magic was thought of by cults in the 1600's. I am sure they aren't even the original creators of the idea either.

There is no such thing as an original thought/concept nowadays, so don't fool yourselves. Everything you see in WoW, FF, heck even DnD, has been done elsewhere before.
