Hello, there's probably been like a thousand threads like this but whatever.

So, anyway i'm quite good at source mapping (see image, i made it for this thread just to prove im SERIOUSEH) and it cant differ THAT MUCH from goldsrc mapping, can it?
Anyone want to link me any tutorials, to get me started, and tell me what are the main differences between source and goldsrc mapping..?

No displacement geometry. If you want stuff to look good you'll need to learn vertex manipulation.
Also there are some different entities and if you jump straight into MSC mapping then a lot of entities will be different. Finding tutorials these days is somewhat hard as most of the sites which hosted them are losing the test of time, I sure wished I had taken the tutorials from 69th Vlatitude.

Thats where I learned most of what I know about mapping. Ive never seriously mapped for source but im pretty sure the main differences would be the lack of displacements, fancy blending textures, props, and 3d skyboxes. Im sure theres more, but if you can map for source youll probably do just fine with goldsource.

I have written like 5 tutorials myself that I very rarely get to tell people about. So go to my site in my signature and check them about, tell me what you think of them.

The Novel of TL;DR has links to several tutorials. I don't think any are written with the idea of going from Source mapping to Goldsource mapping... Other than the displacements and such you already mentioned, you'll have to learn the new entity targeting system, however, Goldsource entity handling is much simpler, so it shouldn't be a real problem. Goldsource is a bit pickier, performance wise, you can't be quite as sloppy in ye old HL1 as you can in Source. It's more about precision, and less about hack and slash.

If you are willing to help out Mss aswell feel free to join us, we need a additional supply of good mappers.

This does not mean msc does not want you, but we could use a hand too, just telling.

I thought he was already mapping for MSS, hence the picture. :|

By all means, work for the MSS team, first and foremost, if you can. We don't exactly have an excess of mappers at the moment, but unlike MSS, at 50+, we certainly have an excess of maps.
