Yeah that's right, google has just announced that they're developing Google Chrome OS, which apparently is going to compete with Microsoft Windows.
More info here.

I'm a bit skeptical, it seems Google is taking over more and more of the world (no seriously, they are becoming a super power), but if it turns out to be faster than Windows, and still allow me to play games without all sorts of weird bugs, I'll most likely get it.

Well, if I have to choose between Microsoft and Google running my virtual world, I think the choice is rather obvious. ^_^

Is there anything that isn't faster than Windows?

Sadly, it really just seems to be yet another front-end for Linux, so games are going to be a major issue. I suspect this is designed strictly an e-mail and web OS only.

Too bad Google didn't have the guts to develop their own kernel and try to rig some Windows compatibility. They are one of the few groups who have the power and the name-recognition to start a real OS revolution.

On the other hand this will help improve the popularity of Linux, and maybe more game developers will spend time on it as a result.

I don't really think there's any reason to be skeptical. Microsoft have a stranglehold over the OS market, even if they aren't necessarily the best OS manufacturers. If Chrome OS sells well, then Google will have proved their worth.

It's basically slimmed down linux + google chrome...that's about it. Nothing to get excited about unless you love chrome and netbooks. Not trying to be hating on google, but this is just a tad more useful than android (google's smart phone OS) would be on a netbook. The best part of it is ARM processors are capable of running it, which would possibly allow someone to throw this onto anything with an ARM processor (every single smartphone and then some) and modify it.

I'd love someone to pull me away from Windows. As much as I like win 7 beta/RC, I'd just like something else to be interesting and fully capable of all forms of entertainment. I know this really isn't possible with Microsoft having it's stranglehold on Direct X but it's nice to dream.

Nice, I love Google. And actually on Chrome right now. I'm stoked to see what they come out with.
