French is short for French courses/classes. It's common to leave such things off (here, at least) when speaking of courses/classes. It's just like saying "Well, for classes, I have Calc, French, and Religion."

The fact that you took French classes wasn't apparent enough out of the context for me. Please don't blame me, I've been ill all week :(

French is a waste of time when probably half of America speaks Spanish.

Although if you are living in Europe French is probably a better choice but in America (or at least where I live) you can only choose French or Spanish, and the closest French speaking population is Montreal...

I live in Europe, (Denmark) And we learn English and German.

Some people decide to learn both even though they can't take both courses in school. Some people call it latent learning.

Not to mention taking 2-4 years of a foreign language (or 2) looks great on a college application.
