Yay, I finally got my GeForce 8600 GT.
The "pack" I bought of my cousin includes :
- GeForce 8600 GT Graphic card
- ASUS Mainboard
- Call of Duty 4
- The Elder Scrolls : Oblivion

For those poor idiots who can't play CoD 4, here's an epic screen.

(Every thing is on high detail, that's the first USMC Mission)

Congratulations! The 8600 GT is like, old now... Should of got a 9600 for a slightly higher price or maybe a 9800 GTX2 (£374+VAT)

Wait 110 bucks after rebates for the 9600 that pretty much maxes out all modern games (crysis aside) at 16x12 or less. I don't know about you but it's more than enough for me, and 2 of them OC'd a bit in SLi actually beats a single 8800 GTX in some games and trades blows in crysis (Info here http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art ... VzaWFzdA== )

So 220 USD a bit of tweaking and an SLI able board with enough juice enough to to beat a card that is still pretty much the best you can buy for effectiveness by itself. I'll take that any day, especially when they are efficient on power, heat and my wallet. I'm going to take a guess (since I can't find it at the moment) and say that prices may vary across other nations, and that is pretty much the only way I can see your post being somewhat logical at all. Granted expecting reasonable logic from you is pretty much like hoping the U.S. will stop wasting money.

Actually, the 8600 is not a low-end card, the 8500 and below are low-end, though.

The power difference beetwen the 8500 and 8600 is GIANT, I could only run Crysis on low-med with the 8500, but with my 8600GTS I can run Crysis in Very High.

Also, the 9600 is GOOD, it's better than the 8800GT (and better than the GTS, too, but not better than a GTX/Ultra) and it's not too expensive, I'm going to grab one when they drop in price (wich is going to be quite soon, and my 8600GTS works perfectly, so there's no hurry).

your statement about the 8800GT vs the 9600GT is wrong. The 9600 while has all the same relative specs does lack the stream processors to match an 8800GT. Same goes for the 8600GT while the performance of it is good, by no means is it great. Compared to an 8800GT the 8600GT is basically utter crap, here are some bench marks viewed in some games.

DX10 game Rendering specs

DX9 game rendering specs oblivion

DX9 game rendering specs HL2 episode 2

DX9 game rednering specs call of duty 4

If you spend some time and look at the other things I have not posted you will notice, in general a stock 8800GT will out perform a stock 9600GT, and an 8800GT vs an 8600GT is absolutely scary. The performance difference between the two is huge.
