Demontemple Map Download

------------------------------

Behold, my first msc map. I'm hoping i have time to work on it, unfortunately my free time is unpredictable, but ill try to at least give weekly updates

Random Description of Area
A temple full of demon worshippers intent on freeing their imprisoned demonic lord (which is not a skeleton), who was imprisoned by the gods long ago. The demon is imprisoned in the temple, slowly growing in power now, watched over by its loyal disciples. The prison the demon is in now works the other way, it is protected from the outside world, growing off the sacrifices made by its disciples. Soon, it will be strong enough to break out and wreak havoc on the world, its new power making it unstoppable.

Plans
-I want this map two promote teamwork, so there are multiple parts in the map that require 2 players to complete.
-Because it's a team map, i want the chests to be team friendly, I was thinking of making multiple chests and giving each player their own or have an npc that will give random treasure to each player at the end.
-The puzzles will probably involve moving platforms and other players pressing switches :)

it looks fairly well designed, minus a few long hallways that you might want to break up, but so long as theres no massive ammounts of detail or large ammounts of critters (6+) in there at once it should be fine.

i look forward to some screenies ;)

That long vista going down the center of the map from the "Not a Skeleton boss" to the room below the "Temple Benches" is going to cause you issues if you don't break it up with something - doors don't block VIS.

Little layered alcoves where the doors would be might cure the problem:
Code:
╔═════╝ ╚═════╗
║ ║
║ ╔══════════╗ ║
║ ╚══════════╝ ║
║ ║
╚═════╗ ╔═════╝

Hmm... Woulda taken me less time to draw that in hammer and make a screen shot, and the forums woulda handled that better, but hopefully you get the idea. ;)

Got started on the frame of the first room since my writing class was cancelled (W-O-O-T!). Just a heads up, the map name is called demontemple, so don't freak out if i accidently run it on [FN] :p

We won't freak out, we'll just delete your character.

Do not test maps on [FN].

If you need a test character, PM me, Evilsquirrel, or MiB for a link to your FN character or use one of the test characters

Yes, use the Half-Life.FGD in combination with the MS1.4.FGD. There are a few ents you can't use, however (like monster_apache, and whatnot).

The entity limit is the same for MSC as any other HL1 mod, but there are many more active ents in MSC than in most games, so it's best to keep it as low as possible:
- Use 1 unit gaps to cut down on brush splitting instead of func_walls whenever possible
- Make sure any entity that can be temporary is removed after it is no longer needed

Wooo update!
I've never been good at detail but heres a few screenies. I was planning on getting the main temple room done this week, but i got distracted by something shiny.

Main entrence to temple, i may redo that textureon the floor. Hall divided up as thothie suggested ;)

Where is the general light coming from? To make it scarier, have the ambient light a low blue, and use lighting to enhance directing the player, and objectives, then use a third colour (low green) for low highlights of detail, and to vary the colour

Looks good - although those rose doors are oft abused. ;) - I'd recommend adding something along those ceilings. Marble ceilings are neat and all - but they tend to look odd when there's nothing supporting them. Make some cross beams, and vary then a bit more (expecially the low ones), I suppose would be my suggestion.

You can make more variance / protrusions along the walls an such, but be sure to player clip them, so players (and monsters) don't get stuck on em.

My information.
A) The 5HP test char is pathetic
B) The map is looking awesome, hope you finish it & it comes out okay :D
C) Please try to make it something like an undead version of foutpost; not in the sense of style or look, but only in the sheer number of monsters? I like difficult maps like that; they offer good XP by the end of them :D

foutpost isn't good xp...

you die too much XD

and also, i'm working on making bloodrose have more areas for monsters, and a friend of mine is working on a place with plenty of undead...so for now you'll just have to farm foutpost, too bad you can't use them gold axes ;)

Evil; foutpost is good XP. At least for those of us with titles of lvl 30+ (like me)... having 37 parry helps keep you alive, and crystals of return help save your ass here & there :D

Way to post that in someone else's topic, Net.

And stop bragging about your levels. There are a lot of 30+ players with 37+ parry, you don't need to incorperate it into every post. That's what a signature is for.

Will add to my list of things to do.

A) I wont be adding monsters till the end
C) I'm not a big fan of gauntlet maps, i prefer to make maps challenging through the puzzles, but I am planning on enough monsters for 2-3 people, as that's how many will be needed to complete it. Also, theres already enough skeletons for my liking, not to mention they're glitchy, so don't expect to see them much. Ghouls maybe, but not skeletons.

The current portion of the map is supposed to be inhabited (It's a temple), so the light comes from (Badly made) floor torches. But i will apply this to the random tunnels and the catacome area, and maybe the boss room.

------------------
To Do:
-Actually make central room.
-Sketch other rooms so i can make them.
-Figure out some puzzles that can be randomized.
-Secrets! (Expected in my maps :p)

Changes: (Woot short!)
-Add support like things to support ceiling

Other conversations had led up to that post; way to post that in someone else's topic, MiB. You could have simply PMed me: LAWL!

As to this map, Demon Temple is it, are there any more teaser shots to show us, Annoying? :D

As previously stated, I've been lazy this week, but i've still done some work while setting up a dedicated server :)

Heres the one screenshot i have today, the cave section in that hole is partially done, but it's pitch black so theres no screenie of it. And before thothie or someone mentions it, i haven't made the supports for the ceiling yet :p. (Im gonna have to move those torches back, they're not hanging over but it looks like they are)
