I figured your criteria for a boss room to be [FN]-approved would be something like:
- No way to get out
- A few unreachable boss minions
- Infinitely respawning boss minions
- Tons of holes in the floor

But fortunately, that's not the case

I figured your criteria for a [JM]-approved boss room would be something like:
-Leave at any time, with no chance of anything following you
-No poison, stun, freeze, or anything that would stop you from running and healing
-Boss in a cage, so he can't use tactics
-No knockbacks, so you can always attack
-Weak to everything, so you can use your favorite weapons
-Button that activates a trigger_hurt to kill the boss, so you can kill him at any time if you aren't good enough to kill him
-100% everything spawn

I disliked Atholo's power. If it wasn't for how hard he hit, I wouldn't mind being thrown into pits every once in awhile.

I'll get the source to you after i make a few changes. both doors in the basement are supposed to move at the same time, but for some reason they don't want to, i might just target them seperately with a multimanager. That empty room is supposed to have a chest in it, but i could add a monster if you really wanted me too .

Chest would be fine too - or better yet - both, I'll try to remember to make you a placeholder chest.

My only real criteria for boss chambers is that they don't get into a situation where you can hit them, but they can't hit you, so the boss doesn't become a bag of free XP. If the boss himself doesn't drop much of anything, I don't even require that the room be otherwise be very difficult or that he even have escorts. I certainly don't require hazards - indeed, I think we've more or less run that bit into the ground.

Sadly, the way the AI works, at the moment, this usually means an inescapable room. I do not have any issue with say, the boss chamber in WW3d (which I designed myself), where you can teleport out, more or less at will, but have no way of tossing projectiles safely back in. I don't even have a problem with hazards designed to help kill the boss, but I must say, where they were a once a necessity in WW3d, I think they have since become superfluous, so I don't recommend it.

With lesser monsters, that exploitability is more forgivable, so long as it isn't constant.

The truly for true [FN] boss approval criteria:

-Does approximately 9000 damage per second AoE around it all the time via waves of cursed evil.
-Room randomly teleports everyone in it into a pit of spikes.
-No way to exit the room, the map, or the server once the boss fight starts (i.e. when the map loads).
-If somehow you get away from the boss, it teleports you to him.
-If somehow you get near the boss, it kills you instantly.
-If you ever run the map, [FN] permanently deletes your character because of the evil curse that the boss monster put on your character.
-No loot whatsoever.
-Invulnerable.

Satisfy that!

If you had ever payed just the slightest amount of attention to that MSN conversation we had a while ago, you'd know that only the first one of those criterias ("Leave at any time, with no chance of anything following you") is one I actually mentioned.

Well, if you seek danger and know what lurks ahead of you, you really shouldn't expect to be able to escape.

Such as a certain tomb.

How is Val-Sul considered a demon that a cult like this would be releasing? :S

I think that Val-Sul should be pulled out in favor of a more demonic boss. Of course, no pressure, Thothie. We don't want future updates ruined for one boss edit

He keeps the Kharaztorant eggs warm. :D
(Actually, I really wanted to have some eggs in there that hatched to kinda hint at that.) ;)

He was originally for Badlands, but I think we know where that map went, so AmIAnnoyingNow gets your boss, as it was better than letting a perfectly good script go to waste. Ya snooze, ya lose. ;)

I'm not complaining that he's somewhere else. That's just another guy in ;-)

I'm complaining because he doesn't seem very demon-y, or anything like that.

He's a giant flaming troll with giant flaming skeletons that summons giant flaming efreets. How much more "demon-y" do ya wanna get? Gene Simmons wouldn't take the part. :p

So does that make the Ice Djinn holy?

I'd say he doesn't have any status that'd make him unholy or holy. He's probably i guess you could say.. 'neutral'

Google pictures of Efreet

Djinn, leaving Arabic origins, extra-biblical texts, and relationship to genies aside, are traditionally a more air-oriented type of vile fallen angle demon type thing, related to Efreet (D&D and some other RPG's have one djinn type for each element: eg. Djinn (air), Efreet (fire), Marid (water), Xorn (earth)). However, for MSC, we went with this spectrum of djinn to stay on terms with Father Brandon's original creation and give us an excuse for quick shake and bake monsters.

Just completed the map, which by the way is very awesome. I completed it along with [Liko][SWE] but when we killed Val-Sul (I solo'ed him :p ) the only contained two pouches of 50 gold each. :|

Yeah, there's a fubar in JUL2007a that messes up those chests, and possibly a few others. Plan to fix in a B release.
