Currently MSC magic opposites are basically fire vs ice and lightning vs poison (which doesn't make to much sense). I propose a more dynamic system were there are no opposites. Instead, it rings around like a more complicated game of rock paper scissors. eg: Electric < Earth < Water < Electric

Fire - Weakness: Water Earth Steel Carbon Air; Strength: Green Ice
Lava - Weakness: Water Ice Carbon; Strength: Green Earth Steal

Water - Weakness: Electric Steel Green; Strength: Fire Earth Lava
Ice - Weakness: Water Fire Earth Carbon; Strength: Steel Green Lava

Air - Weakness: Earth Carbon Steel; Strength: Fire
Electric - Weakness: Earth Carbon; Strength: Water Steel Green

Earth - Weakness: Lava Water Green; Strength: Electric Fire Ice Air
Steel - Weakness: Ice Lava Electric: Strength: Fire Water Green Air

Green - Weakness: Electric Fire Lava Ice Steel Carbon; Strength: Water Earth
Carbon(like diamond hard) - Weakness: Water; Strength: Fire Lava Electric Ice Earth Air

Darkness
Psychic
Ghost
Poison


So, In order to get Lava magic you need to master Fire first. In order to get Electric magic you need to master Air. etc. And perhaps you can only master 5 elements at a time eg: Fire Lava, Green Carbon, and Earth. If you wanted to get Steel you would have to drop either Lava or Carbon.
