I don't know... Might be because DAoC has parry for weapons, and block for shields.

That is how World of Warcraft does it as well. In fact most games have Parry = Weapon, Block = Shield.

Eh, in my expirence as a fencer/kendo-ist it it depends just as much on what weapon you have as to if you even have the ability to riposte. So I'd say the ability to riposte should be connected to weapon skill, THEN it should be a parry check. Something like level 20 in a weapon to riposte, then again hammers/axes/blunts are really hard to parry with but I'll not get into that since adding percents on top of those would be hard.

Something that isn't all that powerful shouldn't be a level 20 skill.
I'd say rather 10, as that is when you become a Master at your trade (just that few ever go to 10 without combining with any other skills).

Riposte could be an automatic parry attack, so that you dish an attack (with a roll) every time you parry. Shouldn't be when you deflect attacks, though.

I also think Parry shouldn't be part of the title system at all, seeing as you're forced to become things like Fencer. There are only Shield Archers, Shield Warriors and the like going around.

It's pretty much impossible to be a Knight, Crusader, Assassin or Master Swordsman for that matter, with parry interfering all the time.

Every time would be a bit much for the heavy hitter weapons (especially nova blade), it should be a percent chance lest it become overpowered. 20 is a little high, but my idea was that things such as blunts/axes would be level 20 to riposte, as they're quite difficult to do so with (and for damage/speed balancing) they would need a higher proficiency to effictively riposte. Things like swords, or even better, gauntlets, would have lower levels to begin riposting with such as 10 for gaunts 15 for swords. There would also be a logical progression for riposting rates for each weapon, but that's way too specific.

I was hoping to have swords and small arms parry like the long sword does, disregarding the Parry skill (unsure if the parry skills increases long sword parry chance).

That way, we could have a say, 10% parry chance on swords, meaning you'd have 10% chance to riposte an attack.
