Hell no

I dun want to have to go through long quests or farm maps to find the best armor again just because an orc hit me.

If people can repair to the original state, they must have materials to MAKE the armor/weapon.

MiB, you run a good argument. this idea came from diablo 2, and all they did was repair crap.

The only work around is that the cheaper armors and weapons (the ones that are store bought already) are the only ones that break, but the high quality Legendary weapons (or whatever) don't break.

how about this -

cheap weapons will break through using them on anything...smiths say its a waste of time to repair them (though, if subskills are added maybe you could try it)

more durable weapons (expensive) will only break when you use them wrong, IE laying the beatdown on some armored dudes with a scimitar (scimitar is for cutting, not smacking), these can be repaired for 10% of the weapon cost in town

Rare weapons will take a long time to break and can be repaired in towns

Magical items must be repaired by a magic using smith (he charges a fair deal more), though - they are very durable due to the magic aura

Legendary weapons up to apostle weapons DO NOT BREAK

And if enchantments are added, you could add enchantments of durability to add more "health" to a weapon, from lesser to greater - and indestructable.

but if my random system was put in, it would get the title of strong (weak to strong/durable) and lesser to greater would be talking about hit damage
