18 hours before this post should be enough - it happened today.

8/10/2009 8:35 AM 0 GMT time is right I believe.

I was on a server (might have been Cyrez), and they were on isle fighting this boss orc.
Needless to say, this boss has 300k health, and one parry screwed me up big time.
I went from 21 to 29, and now I look extremely unbalanced even though it's only parry.

I had no idea he had so much health until it was too late.

If you need any more information, please let me know.

lmao that's got to be Mikkel's server for that to happen xD

Anyways, why rollback for something that you will get somedays later and that's capped at 40? (unless you want to be low lvl forever >_>)

A glacial palace in the elder forest of the north.
For some people, having more HP for your level is more aesthetically pleasing to them than having a lower HP for your level. The belief possibly comes from back when you had people getting as much parry as possible, back before it was capped, who also had a tendency to make unwise character development decisions, and probably weren't the best of players around. Although if you looked at a character's overall level as a gauge of what their power should be, having your parry raised much ahead of it's time will get you a character who's skills are much lacking, compared to what the average should be, which, with a little thought, even someone who has had little to no contact with any veterans of the game should reach a conclusion of.

All in all, while it doesn't seem like the most urgent of requests, I feel that it's not as unreasonable as some of those that have been made as of late.

Thanks Borya, that's precisely the problem.
I've spent the game trying to be as balanced as possible. This screws it up big time.

It's an admirable philosophy, but bordering on paranoia.

The parry system is simply screwy. It will often go up in bursts like this from time to time. The way it is calculated makes it very hard to predict, but if you find yourself suddenly getting some massive burst, I'd write it off as good luck, rather than a curse.

Unless, of course, you really do come across an Orc with 300k health - cuz then you know that either you or the server host is cheating. :D Monsters with more than 16k HP cause issues for the game, sadly - so nothing has more than 10k (ie. Maldora). I suppose this is a bug we'll have to nick sometime, either that, or start giving high-end monsters ridiculous amounts of armor.

You just accused Mikkel of cheating.

If this is true, why is there a Kharaztorant Hollow One in kfortress with hpmulti = 5 (baseHP = 8 000), giving him 40 000 HP?

I was suggesting, rather, that the orc didn't have 300k HP. :p

In regards to the Hollow One, that multiplier never gets applied due to the unique nature of the script, but the insane HP multipliers did cause some issues for other monsters in earlier versions of the map. Most of the issues, however, are subtle or sporadic (wildly incorrect HP, XP%/per hit values, monsters gibbing, AI dieing from mysterious var indexing re-arrangements, etc.)
