The obvious solution to this problem is to make elephants rideable pets. You see, the horses couldn't make it b/c they traveled too fast and the maps are small- but with elephants...

Hehe.

But you have to kill it to skin it. If I were an elephant I wouldn't want to feel all the pain.

Maybe it is, but after so many years I still need an Elephant model :p

I think I'll try to get back into map making and finish that plot with the Netherworld and Nashalrath.
Did Thothie ever update Nashalrath to the new version?

In any case, for those wondering about the Netherworld..
It was basically another plane separate from Leann where the Loreldians went after being banished from Leann.
There new races were created, including a new race resembling the Loreldians when they were living. The plane was wrought with Chaos as entire races and continents were undone in the blink of an instant as the Loreldians fought each other.

Eventually the plane became a collection of desolate rocks floating around in a vast nothingness full of strange atmospheric features. A sad remnant of a destroyed world, the Loreldians had since left the Netherworld leaving these broken rocks, acting as a sad memorial for what was once a living and breathing world.

There is still life on some of these rocks. Animals that do not exist on Leann and so on.
Iposatu, the last boss in Nashalrath was the avatar of a Loreldian. Essentially a mortal made in the image of a Loreldian. When the Loreldians departed such avatars were left behind too. The Demon Bludgeons in Nashalrath had discovered this ancient Loreldian gateway and activated it, believing it would bring Lor Malgoriand back, instead it connected Leann to the Netherworld and started to warp reality in Leann too. Iposatu noticed the gateway and his armies poured through in great numbers. By the time the player character arrives, the Bludgeons were being overwhelmed, which is why a formerly great empire is such a pushover. You may have pushed Iposatu away from the Gateway but he is still there, in the Netherworld, and he will invade again until he is killed or the gateway shut down.

Wait why was the Dragon put in Nashalralth? oo
Wasn't the Green dragon supposed to be in the Elf city?

Oh well, not a big deal, assuming Nashalrath didn't get the proper transition yet, I can simply remake the true Nashalrath with a different name. Nashalrath didn't turn out as it was supposed to be anyway.

No Bludgeons vs Horrors battle, no quest and no exploration as I wanted.

A remake would be for the best.

The "friendly" white dragon is in the elven city, the green one went missing at the start of tAoB. (And the map does now have a transition.)

I think a ruined Loreldian stronghold, hidden away, and formally occupied by a missing dragon, who was trying to wait out the Age of Blood, works better than Ipatsu et. al., and I don't want to have this conversation again, so I'm just going to pretend it's not going to happen, and burn that bridge fwhen we come to it. ;)

Oh...I just remembered the Elf dragon being Green, my mistake.
Where does it transition to?

But I'd like to try and have my story told though, even if perhaps it does not tie into the latest version of the mythology. Then again, it wasn't released when I thought up this story and it probably isn't released now either.

For me, the Lost were not destroyed or ripped apart, but banished from Leann and forced to live out in other planes of existence, other universes if you will, with a fragment of their influence remaining on Leann due to their connection there, I.E the Horrors for instance. The four Loreldians on Leann, essentially use their power to keep the Loreldians out and to do their thing. I.E, Chaos for Torkalath.

Neither is your lore, so it's the best place to start building a new world, with new gods, or what not. We've got enough trouble beating the lore into consistency without introducing new gods and universes and stuff like that.

You're on your own there. ...And don't waste more thread space defending it all over again, as we're not having this conversation again.

Well, I don't want my lore to become a new universe, I already have my own.
I wanted it to be an off-shoot. Tied into the lore of Leann but also separate.

What's wrong with that? As long as it doesn't influence Leann why is it a big deal?

Another universe = another game. Have fun, we're done here.

Gave you the opportunity to bring it into reason by replacing your new god with a dragon, which was more compromise that we should have offered under the circumstances. Your previous obsession with Bludgeons was sufficient to give them a shout out in the lore (if only thanks to Gaz's model), even if none of the storyline got in. But the line is drawn: No new gods, no ipatsu, no new universes. Either get over it, or force your lore on some other game.

Again, the key to writing fanfic, is to do it in such a way that doesn't break the world it's in. You work within the bounds and rules of the world you have, rather than creating an entirely new one. I wish you luck with your efforts elsewhere, and maybe you can come back when you've learned that - but I think your creative efforts would be better served coming up with something entirely your own, as clearly, there's some OC in that head of yours trying desperately to boil forth.

Lanethan wrote rich, colorful lore and almost none of it has been told in game. There is absolutely no excuse to make maps that have brand new lore when we are struggling enough as it is to tell the actual story.

Well, I have no issue with new lore... There's plenty of room for new lore... I just have issue with lore ideas so grand in scope they destroy the entire idea behind the core lore. (Which, yes, we're having enough trouble ironing out.)

So yeah, no new gods, no threat more apocalyptic than the return of Lor Malgoriand, or the rise of an immortal Kharaztorant... But any story that takes place within the bounds of the world powers is fine, and there's plenty of space to work in there. Evil wizards, uppity would-be orc chiefs, rebelling segments of the kingdom, mad elves, various mad beings possessing horrors, beings warped by magic and bent on revenge, ancient threats remaining from the War of Fate, cross species love triangles, hell, even dragon cameos - whatever. Just... No new universes or anything that only the gods themselves could resolve, plzktnx.

God fucking... Why was this locked a few hours ago and reopened now?

I had a wall of text that i wrote while this got locked, nah i'm kidding.

What i said was (b4 lock), give him a chance to make his own map series, that in no way apply to the real lore or have any sort of connection to it. We have nightmare maps that we can just votemap to, doesn't make much sense to me, i think the time wizard from helena should be used more often for this kind of situations, have him take us to these maps at a cost of something.

Gurluas could make an alternate dimension of nashalrath within reason and plan it in a similiar way as to what a nightmare map would be, a "what if..." scenario. And by being within reason i mean no digger elves or a newborn elephant race to replace the dragon warriors, that would be stupid. It has to make sense and shouldn't look so fanatic (no dogcats either).

This said, i think he should be given a chance to do something of his own, as long as it isn't too serious like the things i stated above and probably a few more that slipped away for the time being.

Locked it for a bit to give Little-G a chance to calm down (was clear it was going to be another 13 page thread otherwise). Even then he started up again elsehwere, but...

The Nightmare maps are supposed to be "what if" maps, true - but they are "what if you don't man the f*ck up and stop the pending return of Lor Malgoriand", or what not... It's true, they are a bit comedic, and Nightmare Edana went over the top that way. ;) (Still fun...) Granted, even on Nightmare Edana, I axed out the K-cult guys and replaced them with ghouls, because I figured, lore wise, that the K-cult guys wouldn't be around anymore.

But Little-G basically wants to screw with the fundamentals of the lore, changing the very nature of the gods, both past and present, and tossing more in to boot, screwing even with the very nature of the core message behind the lore... While I suppose that might not be so bad if we put a huge "This is Irrelevant Fan Fic" banner over the maps, it's gonna cause mass confuzions, and screw with our already strained efforts to tame this lore beast.

Perhaps more importantly, however, Little-G can't actually do this himself. Nashalrath's brush work isn't his. He'd need to hijack a mapper or two we can actually use for the game, and it could easily turn into a situation, such as with Oyster, where he hijacks several and their work might never see the light of day as a result. Much as with that situation, he'd also need me to script it all. He does have some minor know how for mapping, modeling, and even scripting, but not enough to achieve any of what he wants to do on his own (and what scripts he has sent me in the past are based on ancient MS leaks, that'd take even more effort for me to fix than to write up from scratch).

If he was willing to work with us, rather than run off and build his own universe, that'd all be worth it, but otherwise, well, we're short enough on manpower as it is, without trying to create what equates to a whole other world, all while ignoring MSC's.

That would work - you wanna help him with that? ;)

Granted, I really think he needs to do something all his own. There's clearly some tremendously epic original story inside him trying to burst out, and infecting his imagination every time he sees an discarded model, and it clearly needs its own world to encompass it. I think the reason he has trouble staying within the bounds of the worlds of his various fanfic efforts, is because, at some level, he really wants to create one of his own.

"I inspired what now?"

I mean, when you're inspired to write endless lore, by that (^), clearly, your imagination has no bounds, and, perhaps, is trying to drive you to greater things. ;)

I don't think the cosmology of Leann has every really been expounded upon; the only two proper extraplanar locations I know of are the Astral Plane (where all the Triad's allies removed themselves to voluntarily) and the Soul Well (basically the afterlife that even the Loreldians are scared to eff with), both mentioned in the original Lanethan novella. Regardless, no just no to Gurluas' stuff. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't Horrors originally said to be fragments of Loreldian consciousness, coalesced into physical form after they got smashed during the War of Fate? (presumably because something that powerful never truly dies)

I do recall a couple other extra-planar locales being mentioned briefly. There was the Sea of Proral (PRO-rale), the sea of duality that exists in Urdual's threshhold. This seems to imply that there is a "plane" for each member of the Triad. I have always been of the impression that the Astral Plane was Felewyns domain specifically.

I also swear I read something about elemental planes, and that the plane of fire was named something like "Canarn". I can't find anything on this, though. Does anyone else remember anything like this?
