Did you move the steam.exe? It happens to me when I move my steam.exe If it's not in your steam folder, find it and put it in there. I HATE STEAM! My god, whoever made steam needs go be shot.

Heather,
or reformat your computer and do a fresh install after you put xp back on.

Everytime this happens to me, a restart fixes it.

Does it not show up at all? If nothing shows up completely, I know a temp fix. I use to do it when it wouldn't run at all and now for some reason after along time of doing it, it works.

I think this method only works for XP, I've only tried it with XP :|

First make sure Steam isn't trying to run. Do Ctrl+Alt+Delete, going under "Processes" and making sure "Steam.exe" isn't under "Image Name". If so, click it, and "End Process"

Now:

1: Right-click your Steam shortcut.
2: Click "Run as..."
3: Check off "The following user:"
4: Pick you're User name and of course, put in your password (If you have a password)

Sorry if it sounds like I'm treating you like a tard, steps like these are the only ones I can follow :)

You may have re-installed it to a new folder, thus younow have two copies of Steam.

Open My Computer, hit F3, and tell it to search for STEAM.exe - if it shows up in more than one folder, close your instance of Steam, open each one, until you see your old game list. Make a shortcut to that one on your desktop, via file->Create Shortcut, and dragging the new shortcut onto your desktop.

Throwing my computer out of the window or hitting it with a hammer and then buying a new computer works.
