Well, my main computer died on me. Suspect its something to do with my video card and its over-heating problem. Even when I have my house fan blowing directly into my computer, it still crashes (screen turns wierd colors).

So now I cannot play MS:C and forced to go buy another computer, yes a whole new computer because this is like 3 or 4 years old.

This might be a good thing though, I can put my old video card in the computer and set it up as a dedicated server. Hmm, will RiP have 2?!?!?!?!

...

I prefer to shop+build my own computer. So I know exactly whats going in it (And whats coming out :oldlol: ).

Also, building is about 50% cheaper than buying the same system pre-built.

Yea I was thinking about just building it myself, though I don't know much about computer hardware. So I will need help with that. (If someone wants to help me, please advise me what to get AND WHY).

Heh, i'm that person you should talk to :) (I feel like a psychiatrist...)

Well:
1. What type of computer do you want? (Ex. High-End Gaming, High-End Productivity (a.k.a. CAD... Video Editing... Etc.), Middle-Class All-Around computer, low end cheapo stuff.

2. You prefer AMD or Intel?

3. You prefer ATI or nVidia?

And building it isn't that hard, most motherboards come with instructions :)

High-End Gaming, along with working on games. I.e. programming, mapping, modeling, artwork.

Intel.

nVidia.

Also, I don't ever want to have to open my case and use my floor fan to cool it again. So like 18 fans in my computer, heh.

EDIT: Vista ready would be good enough. I have XP and my neighbor has Vista so I don't know about that yet. And I will be selling my engagment ring soon (boo hoo) for hopefully 2,000 or more. Granted I want other things with that money as well, tattoos, a dog, bills. So maybe like 1300 ~ 1500

This'll be easy, you want everything I want too :) (And have the same preferences - including alot of case fans to keep stuff coo :D ) But before I can start, could you answer my two additional questions?

you missed some seriously important facts!

Intel at current is better than AMD, however middle of summer a new architecture will release and AMD quad cores will rule the world.

DDR is viable DDR2 is out and runs faster, wait a bit and DDR3 will release and you will really see a computer fly.
Technical jargon:
DDR = max 400 Mhz
DDR2 = max 800 Mhz
DDR3 = max 1.33 Ghz <- super fast

ATI sucks balls, hopefully AMD will fix it, but Nvidia is the way to go, and a geforce 8600GT is the best mid range video card to go for, offers DX10 plus all the power you need for a while.

I am sure there are other things I could mention, but honestly if you waited to buy a computer you would not only have access to better architecture but when the new stuff releases all the old stuff will become super cheap we are about to hit the next big things for computers!

The time to upgrade is coming!

but hey its your money :p

did you know intel and amd knew that DDR2 was a failed product? They went ahead and released anyway knowing they could sucker some people into buying it.

The speed difference between DDR2 and DDR3 is very big, thus not worth the upgrade to DDR2.

Of course if one can't wait then meh

That and the DDR3 should play nicely with AMD's new quad core :D

Well, since P wants his computer now, no other choice but to go for DDR2. I guess I'll wait for AMD's quad-cores :)

what brand did you get?

unless its MSI or gigabyte it was a waste, well not entirely there are a few other companies who know how to make video cards.

As for dell... lets not even go there, cheap computers made with cheap parts. XPS series is the same thing except more expensive but still made with cheap parts.
