AMD has put a lot into there quad core CPU, in the end they are hoping it will dominate the market like there amd 64 series did. If they deliver on everything they said we may be looking at some serious computing under the hood, the CPU has its own memory controller with each core having its own level 2 cache and of course the large shared level 3 cache. If they new AM3 architecture works without any issues we are going to see a bandwidth between CPU and memory greater than ever before.

I pin high hopes on AMD to deliver this, and being the underdog of the CPU race they can pull it off, after all if you have ever looked side by side with Intel AMD has been leading the way not Intel.

I guess I can wait, I looked @ release dates for the Phenom, and the first to come out are the Phenom FX series (Quad-Core). They come out in July 2007...

EDIT: Looks they they won't be supporting DDR3?
K10 processors supports DDR2 SDRAM rated up to DDR2-1066 (1066 MHz)

as for now the AM2 slots will hold the new quad cores and use the DDR2 memory, however one has to wait for the AM3 sockets to get DDR3 support, so right off the bat yes and no it won't support DDR3.

Depends on if you wait for the AM3 motherboards or just can't wait and jump for the AM2.

its hard to tell if your setup is good, most of the links go to different parts.

IE your case link goes to a CD-ROM.

Either way, from what I see it would be good for a new rig.

though come next month AMD quad cores will be purchasable, making your new computer outdated.

I personally would hold on just a bit longer and wait for the new quad core. You don't even have to buy a quad core, but once the quads release all the dual core CPU's will be dropping in price like crazy, DDR2 should hit its lowest price and all motherboards that support those dual CPU chips will be sold very cheap. This is of course to pave the road for the new generation of architecture to replace, so they need to get rid of it.

They are giving one massive **** smack to Intel.

if only that was true, while AMD my pave the way Intel has all the money. Once AMD makes their better product Intel just duplicates it at a smaller form factor should be 45nm compared to AMD's 65nm

Also thats not a true quad core its only 2 dual cores on one chip, come in a month or so we AMD will have true quad cores released on the new AM3 socket, giving us access to not only 4 true logical cores but DDR3!

I've had horrible, painful experiences with EVGA graphics cards, and so have a few of my friends. Ye may want to look into BFG/XFX even if it means you have to knock it down a model to get the same price.

hmm haven't heard many bad things about evga myself, then again I prefer the MSI or PNY brand.

My information.
$749.99 cost, before shipping & handling.

XFX GeForce 8800 Ultra XXX 768MB
PCI-Express & SLI ready card. That's the best card you could get, at this moment.

If you are patient, though, wait till November to buy your next video card. The 92 series from NVidia comes out then, supposedly, and is supposed to be at least twice as fast as the 8800. NVidia is bitch-smacking ATI, and AMD is bitch-smacking Intel. Sure Intel could copy AMD's eight core setup, and make it smaller, but they'll always be behind AMD in the technology.

Besides, I am not taking a brand-side based off being in a group of something. I'm doing it based off having seen Intel computers & comparing them to AMD ones. My older bro, Jabba, will contest to that, as well.

Intel Celeron.

Do your eyes burn after having read that? One of their worst releases ever. My bro, Jabba, has an Intel Celeron 2.7GHz, and CPU wise, it performs poorer than a 1.1GHz AMD set. It's been tested, an old computer I used was the AMD one, and my bro used his... then we noticed everything that required CPU power, I had more fun on since it ran smoother & faster.

Of course... last I talked with him, he was mentioning he's going to upgrade his computer to a *much* better set, and who knows... maybe he'll mail his Intel Celeron set to Al Queda to make them vomit from the horror of it. :oldlol:

*/me dramatizes differences, despite dramatized reactions people would have: the system performance differences aren't dramatized, only the reactions people would have*

He's getting an Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe, not a nerfed Celeron. Tis like, 4 generations of difference there.

Intel has just plain been making better chips lately. I wind up building systems for my customers on a pretty regular basis, so I know that without a doubt. Back in the day AMD was top dawg, but tis not been true for awhile now. They'll catch up again no doubt, and the process will repeat itself. I'd say the same with nVidia and ATI - but I think ATI is just about ready to throw the fight and concentrate on the integrated graphics field.

Hehe... well I didn't say Celeron was new, now did I? In-fact, I very openly said it was old: I was just stating that it was a horrible release. It rates itself up with a good processor speed, but is equivalent to a two year older AMD set at almost a third the processor speed.

A poor release, as I said.

well from the past Intel has learned that if they follow in AMD's foot steps they can make a better chip, and thats what they plan on doing after AMD releases there quad core, Intel will be making the same chip at 45nm.

That means Intel chips not only consume less energy but will be able to run at faster clock rates than AMD's 65nm. If not for Intels big pocket book, AMD would be running this show.

However no matter how good Intel chips could potentially be I will always be an AMD fan.

As for nVidia and ATI, well considering AMD bought ATI I think we will be seeing a big turn around in that company, heck you can finally find ATI drivers!

is the Geforce 9 series really that close to release already?
