Ok peeps(those of you who remember me) i just got a computer case and a mother board with a processor. this means only one thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally get to build that gaming computer i always wanted to build... also if anyone knows any graphics cards compatible with the Intel 945 series please please please post them... Anyways just wanting to post something cuz i havint been on... oh right... as soon as i find a digital camera that actually works im gunna take pics and post here... anyways ya...

Eh, they all are. ^_^

Any PCI-E graphics card should be compatible with the 945 series chipset, provided you've got the proper PCI-express slot and a PSU with enough power on the 12v rail to handle whatever guzzler you get. Some Intel 945 chipset motherboards come with their own Intel GMA graphics card on board - but the Intel GMA is sh*t - so you are best off replacing it ASAP.

Well i guess you guys get an update considering i just got some stuff for my comp...
Just got a refurbished 1GB Graphics card... along with the heat sync/fan... hard drive and ram still needed...
also anyone know about linux? i hear its free so im thinking of using that till i save enough for windows 7

I wouldn't recomend Linux for a gamer lest you have l337 hacker skillz. Look for some folk who's missing an eye and goes "arrr" a lot, but is none-the-less wearing glasses, if ye can't afford a legit M$ OS atm. XP should do ye fine.

My inner Largo would also like to thank you for custom building your machine. Seems hardly anyone does that anymore - especially when on a budget.

Gods forbid the Largo-Sensei ever be forced to use a laptop. ^_^

hahaha... ok im postin this from my moms laptop... well i stole parts from my old comp that are compatable... just my graphics card dosint exactly fit where its supposed to be.... as in i cant get to the input for the monitor... welp... i may have to get ANOTHER graphics card as mine has 2 slots... o well... just another $100 or less... hopefully the latter.... all in all so far ive spent about $150 on parts I bought with MY money... rest was gifts/scavanged... hopefully ill have it running tomarrow and can get intranetz... so much to do.... oh so much...

It maybe the rig you canabalized this graphics card from uses an AGP interface, while you need a PCI-E card (although it seems unlikely that there are any 1GB AGP cards...). I doubt there are any 945 chipset motherboards with AGP slots, so that's likely where you are at.

If it's an Intel brand motherboard, beware that they are very picky about memory voltage. You'll have to see the motherboad's manufacturer's website for details.

meh alot of this would have been useful sooner... anyways in order to move my graphics card from slot a to slot b i had to wrestle it from the mother board... the only cannibalized parts are the hard drive and the cd player....


Edith and also i bought the 1gig graphics card so i didint remove it from anything... the dude said i should get lag free gaming... god help him if hes wrong...

I think not - ye likely have a browser plugin on that laptop ye ain't familiar with.

It might help to list the specific type, brand, and model of each hardware device you are trying to combine before you hit another snag. If the computer you are cannibalizing the HD from is old, you may run into issues there too - for instance, if it's an IDE, and the particular 945 board you have has only SATA.

haha oooh my my my.... im so fing pissed... the hd isint old... 2008 comp it came from... but i forgot to put power into the graphics card... just one problem... my power core dosint have the plugin for it.... time to see if there is a converter...

Those cards usually come with one. :/ The newer PSU's come with them as well, however. You need to be sure that your PSU has enough juice for the card, or bad things will happen.
