since the Dec patch, seems like a lot of monsters feel inclined to use their spidey senses and crawl up walls. ive noticed this mostly with low-level orcs in the big valley in daragoth and boars in ww1, only places ive seen it so far...

edit: brown bear just ran right over the big stone nubbin things in the beginning of ww1.

edit2: seems like trolls have also learned how to le parkour

Haven't you read the other posts on this subject? Olympic Orcs :D

I suppose them damned trolls feel discriminated against, so they're doing the Olympics too -_-

Time to pull off a Munich Conference

I've seen weirder things going on with monsters... sometimes boars are aggressive... they run up to, I dunno, greet me. Or I happen to walk in on a Boar orgy near the cliff where the blackhand scout does the moonwalk... I took screen shots but I can't seem to find them in my msc folder...

I am guessing the boar orgy has something to do with pets turning on their masters too...

Some boars are agro.

Trolls should not be jumping.

Bears should not be jumping - but the shapes of some of those stones in WW1 may cause them to navigate funny sometimes. (Same with trolls that hit them)

Lag can also cause strange monster movement.

Pets should CERTAINLY not be attacking their masters anymore. >< If you can confirm this activity on a DEC2006 server while running the patch, please do tell.

I shall have to look more deeply into this...

do you mean that boars that DO NOT have "Ferocious" or some other prefix and just say "Wild Boar" are aggro?

any ideas why the boars are having orgys on mondays, wednesdays, and fridays? (any ideas why I would know about this? ME <--NOT a Participant. i go wednesdays...)

If a summon acts up, then all you need to do is:
A) Ragequit & never summon again
B) Unsummon & don't re-summon until map change or something
C) Bludgeon the damned summons to death & show'em who's boss!

That's all :D

I finally got a chance to look into this, and I see what it is... In an effort to fix the "monsters on ramp" issue, I changed the ramp degrees monsters could climb.

Odd that I didn't see the side effects in testing sooner, but I suppose it was predictable. ;)

I'm tempted to keep it - it's kinda kewl to see those trolls shoot over those rocks, but I suppose it makes it harder for mappers to pen their monsters in (even though, really, things like that should be player clipped). I think, actually, those rocks WERE monster clipped, originally, on WW1 - but the clips were too large, and you could hide inside them and shoot at the monsters, hence their removal.

edit: as a compromise, I reduced the ramp size, and increased the step size. They won't walk over those central rocks in the pathway- but I notice a bear will *ocasionally* attempt to climb one of the side walls (also should be clipped), but only a short distance.

The step size increase results in monsters being able to jump on most small structures, like tables, beds, etc - ala the orcs in orcplace2_beta. Side effect I've noticed is that small creatures can also leap over one another. So those boars in WW1 just come flying at you like they're on crack as the ones in back leap over the ones in front... Hmmm...
