So I just beat TimeShift

Recent FPS games have way too short SP campaigns

I just beat (the full version of) TimeShift. Took me about... six to seven hours I think. Needless to say, it was very short (about as short as Episode Two in fact) but very entertaining.
The settings (as in: areas you visit) are very varied, I didn't feel like I was getting bored of any particular area in the game at any particular moment, and even though the story is still kind of strange/partially unexplained, it was fun.

Also, I just read this on GameSpot about Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare:
GameSpot said:
The single-player campaign is over in a flash, but the high quality of that campaign and its terrific multiplayer options make Call of Duty 4 a fantastic package.

That sucks. I'm definitely going to acquire CoD4 too, but it's just such a shame that most quality shooters right now and the ones that are coming out (Crysis probably) are so short. This new 'trend' in FPS gaming seriously sucks balls.

Agree y/n?

Edit: :O I just noticed that Gears of War PC has been released...!

Edit 2: Double :O I just noticed that F.E.A.R.: Perseus Mandate has been released...!!!

I really recommend you to "grab" Jericho - it's about 10 to 15 hours (I beat it 10 in hard) and it's really fun, don't listen to the poor reviews the game has got, it's IMO very well worth playing.

I'll have to try the demo first before I'd give the full game a shot. There are so many good games (good: in my opinion good) games out right now it's insane.

I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to play them all and still be able to do all my work for university >_>
Painkiller: Overdose
F.E.A.R.: Perseus Mandate
Gears of War
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

And I have yet to 'acquire' The Elder Scrolls IV: The Shivering Isles... And later this month Crysis and Unreal Tournament III are coming. Oh my O_O

This has to be the best year in gaming history ever

Edit: Just looked up Jericho's rating on GameSpot; it got a 6.5, and TimeShift got a 6.5 as well. So if I like TimeShift (despite it's "fair" GameSpot rating), I might just like Jericho as well :O

Yes, I too agree that most FPS's these days are too short. Although I've recognized that they add too much detail and less maps and story details. This could lead to the reason why FPS's are shorter recently.

I only play the CoD games for the single player. Sucks that it's short. :-(

the shortness is directly influenced by production costs, current costs for games with super high video crazy stuff is very high cutting down the overall length of the game. They spend all there time making detailed levels, textures, characters, animations, sounds, music, and who knows what else.

Where as in the past the production was simple, take Final Fantasy 3 (FF6 in japan) it mostly consisted of animated sprites simple music and ate a whopping 8 Mb of space on the SNES cart. However it played for well over 40 hours.

for a better match take Duke Nukem 3D, simple game engine. Again monsters consisted of sprites, and the level design didn't have to be super detailed because the engine couldn't do it, that and the computer hardware at the time.

Though none of this matters, cause I still think it crap I spend 60 bucks on a game that lasts 6 hours!

I loved this demo and I am thinking of getting the game when it comes out for PS3.

Sadly FPS is not the way to go if you want playtime, but most RPGs out there have tons of it.
Maybe try out The Witcher? Heard it had 80hours -ish playtime

Also, Assassins Creed is coming out same day as Crysis afaik, might be worth a look too.

Wow, disappointing much? What happened to plot and reason to playing games... This is so depressing, the new games are mindless point & click setups that can no longer challenge, nor interest people, outside of graphical goodies & gameplay features. The storyline is critical to enjoyment; on my part, at least. It needs to be lengthy, and with puzzles to extend the gameplay. Oh well... this is the future... one or two good games every five years, and dozens of quickies to pass the time by...

The demo actually doesn't illustrate half how cool this game is :D
All the weapons in the full game are really fun to use (except for this worthless piece of crap EMP like thing that shoots projectiles in an arch) and the level design is so much more varied than the somewhat messy and cramped in-ruined-city levels.

I'm not sure if I should actually recommend it to you because it's so short, but if you really like it, you probably won't be disappointed.

I am going to get it anyway, A good game is still a good game no matter how short it is. Heavenly Sword was short but I think it has tremendous replay value.
