Re: Blade of death

This sword looks like a good way to develop a future economy. We need more low-mid level weapons that have no special abilities and are for sale. A new skin can't hurt though.

Re: Blade of death

Doesn't seem bad nor too good but it's OK i guess, even though i don't like the name you gave to your sword, shall i say it's "too obvious" or "too simple" of a name >_>

Sorry for stealing it, Thoth!

Do we really need another sword? Really?

Let's start by getting rid of gold altogether and just make swords the currency. ;)

What I'm saying is put modeling efforts into something other than a sword. Please!

To share it with someone, in my opinion a decent or good model shouldnt be wasted. Plus, I like feedback. Now I can always rig it for any half-life mod or game but...since everyone bitches about MSC having to many swords I decided to make it for half-life

1. CMD didn't need to immediately begin dumping on your work as a novice modeler.

2. Stoned, there was no need to curse at him.

3. We really don't need any more swords.

4. When anyone posts a thread about a model on the forums of a medieval fantasy game, especially when he is the creator, it is generally assumed that said model is intended for use in the game.

Edit: Whoops, I'm a little slow today. I started typing this post at 7:40. I had to stop for several tissues. (sinus infection)

Nowhere did I comment on the model itself. I commented that we do not need more swords. I also directed him to a better use of time & ability towards modeling anything but sword.

Besides, I'm not one to judge a "novice modeler", seeing as I am one myself.

I think your pretty good crazy, sorry btw. It just got annoying seeing that image again and to me it just aggravates the living piss out of me. I may have also vented my frustration from random things on you as well, sorry :( . Personally, I think this is my best complete model yet (Its entirely 100% new model). Besides, I enjoy making swords, there simple to make, and something just inspired me to make it so I decided to make it. Tbh, I dont think I would have the patience to make a decent hammer or something. But if you think I dont like making other things besides swords then your wrong, I made those two axes, I made that one MA weapon that Thothie hasnt replied back on yet. Its just a matter of time in till something or someone inspires me to make a dagger, blunt weapon, etc. Getting motivated external is somewhat easy for me, internal motivation is just impossible.

All the parts in the orange boxes can be greatly, GREATLY optimized. For the top box, just make the end with 2 or 3 stacks, the 'round' look can be accomplished through skinning. As for the other boxes, just make it one stack (by deleting all of the vertices within the boxes and connecting the outer vertices together).

By doing this, you will cut your poly count by half-ish.

The way I did it Barnum is if I removed that line of vertexes and tried making it into a blade, it wouldnt work. Plus, the poly count isnt even that high :/ I think it was only like 900 or so. I think skullblade might have more polys than that :| And the blade was actually done manually, layed out the vertexes one by one and did that later.

What do you mean it won't work? What happens when you try to do it?

Thats nice and all, but all I am saying is that you can get the exact look for your sword, with everything I suggested.

Why? There are so many tools at your disposal that does everything for you so you don't have to waste time and put every vertex in.

Please don't take what I say the wrong way. Your model looks great, I am just trying to help you become a better modeler. When you have to cut down on polys, or make a section quickly without laying down vertices everywhere.

Actually the skullblade has half the amount of polygons while having similar quality. Trust him, cylinders do stack up a lot of polys so PLEASE keep that in mind.

Swords are very easy to do because any simple shape can be turned into part of it:

-A squashed small cylinder can make the part that connects the blade and the handle (check the hoarfrost for an example)
-another cylinder with only 4 sides can be used for the blade itself, and would have saved you from the pain of doing it manually.

Hmm, personally, I like doing it manually. There might be easier ways of doing so but I like the way im making it right now. Now, I layed out the vertexes in the shape of a box (including the ones in the middle) and made all the faces, thats where I scaled each row of vertexes to what I wanted but when I wanted to get the look of a blade I snapped together the vertexes on either left or right side of the model. Leaving the center ones alone of course.

Although we don't need more swords, that doesn't mean I don't like this heh, it has a certain charm to it

@Stoned:
You should complete a full set. Make the shield, armor, knife, bow, anything else to go along with that sword. And if you need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Sweet :D I would be more than happy to make a full set! It will be like the skullblade set, just less gay. (Same model just with a different name and proficiency requirment :/)

Now, I know for a fact I would need help for the armor, from what I have planned it isnt gonna be a reskin.

Wait what

I was refering to the skullblade weapons. It just the same model with a different name and level, I didnt want it to be like that for the Stygian set. Altho if I planned on making a blunt weapon, dagger, long sword, etc I would need a new model anyway.

In any case, if you are going to slap your name on the models/sets and call it original, it better be original.

What do you mean by that? Make it something that you never saw before?
