I just started up a dedicated server on my other computer, roughly 5 feet away...

My ping was fluctuating between 250 and 550. The wierd thing was that all of my motion was fluid, there was no jumping around or anything...although the boars in thornlands were (moon walking/ice skating/couldnt hit me).

JM was there as well, trying to kill a boar...but the lag stopped him from hitting alot. His ping was higher than mine.

I left the server up if anyone else wants a hillariously high ping.

i know...but i'm fairly sure that windows XP isn't helping...

With windows ME, it ran just as fast as my XP comp does now...

EvilSquirrel must call tech support.

This mod does have some odd things about it that will cause it to, effectively, use 100% of the CPU - on a P4ht 3.0Ghz 800FSB... Actually, under certain circumstances, even on the highest end system, it'll flood the CPU and completely lock it. (From Dev_E on)

The P4 1.6Ghz 400FSB laptop that this puppy is currently running on, runs at 90+% capacity with more than 2 players... Between 95 and 98% capacity with from 4-6 players. Then it just plain locks if I connect to it together with certain players (100%). I've no idea why just with certain players though (again, maybe some odd character or inventory conflict on Central). It idles between 25%-50% - when totally empty. :oldshock:

Again, until now, I've never seen an HLDS mod take more than 35% of my desktop's CPU, even in the most dire circumstances. (I"ve run: NS, BrainBread, WW, DOD, TFC, HLDM, ESF, and of course MS 1.35). Generally they idle at 1-2%, and a full server will take, on average, 15%-25%. So yes, MS:C is a "problem child" mod, beware.

hm...i'll just host listenservers on my computer.

If it can't handle many players though, something is definately wrong...might have to send a certain optimization c++ book to the devs...i say that because when dystopia came out i was hosting a 32 person server with relatively low ping.

I can say that with an AMD Athlon XP +2400, and 512 megs of ram...

A listen server runs alright... However, a dedicated server on the same pc... When I connect, it lags really bad...

I sometimes get a rare lag spike on my listen server... It only happens once in a while... But the funniest thing is...

I am the only one playing... and my ping jumps too 199 for a little bit... Sometimes like 10 seconds or so and then goes too normal...

But anyhow... I am working on that second dude after Lord Calmarin (or what ever that spelling is)... I think I have him right where I want him... But it will take some time.. Since I am not attacking him directly, but with fire darts and etc...

MS 1.3 used to work ofine for me on a dual P3-550 setup with 6 people. Now I can't even locally connect without causing the CPU it running on to max out. :(
