Textures did not integrate into maps proper.

ent file said:
"wad" "\program files\steam\steamapps\[omitted]\half-life\msc\allinone2.wad;"

You have a space in the path to your wad file, hence wads not integrating proper.

Try to keep your wad files in simple shallow folders, such as c:\wads, or c:\hldev\wads, etc. Then try -nowadtextures again.

These two maps are quite tiny. I think you could likely glue the two together into one larger map. Entity count doesn't look like it'd be an issue, but especially not with low level players - for they toss out far fewer edicts than the high level ones.

Ok, thanks. I'll probably add some more to the maps and fix the wad issue

edit: made both maps into one, makes me lag a ton in hammer but I compiled (24 minutes) and ran thru it, as far as i can tell its good, except for the fact that every texture is offset by something (due to copy/pasting maps and moving)

Texture lock is your friend.

If yer lagging in Hammer, play with the 3D draw distance settings, or zoom in closer in the 2D view panels. (Some cards get slowed more by the 2D drawtime than the OpenGL preview. When zoomed close, there's less software lines to draw, so it helps alleviate that.)

I recolored a scrolling waterfall texture to fit my map, put it back in allinone2, but when i play the map, it shows up as black and purple checkerbox

Either texture is bad, added incorrectly, updated wrong copy of wad file, or wad file still not integrating correctly.

...Or there's a little soccer fan in your computer, blowing a vuvuzela into your hard drive's ear.

A weird thing also happened to me exactly like that! I tried using 'tornsky' for my sky (default ms:c sky file) and I ended up with the purple/black checkerboxes.

All i did was recolor it with photoshop, stuck it back in Wally, saved it in Msc folder and in my c:\wads

it lets me see the texture in Hammer, so I don't know why its not showing up ingame

I blame the little European guy in your computer causing the American soccer fan in there with him to go agro whenever he calls it "fütball", breaking everything inside. Meh, spectator sports fans - the only creatures in the known universe with fatter asses than gamers...

Or, more likely, it isn't an 8-bit texture anymore, after you got done with it in photoshop, or it is missing palette entries. The first possibility, it seems Wally would screen out, but maybe not the second, and the second may not cause Hammer to flip either. It may also be that Wally is set wrong, and did something to the imported texture that HL doesn't like, but Hammer will still put up with. I would likely need to see the BMP and/or WAD in question. The possibility that the compiler is pointing at the wrong .wad file still remains as well. (Check compiler log!)

One thing you can do before uploading hundreds of megs, is open the BMP in photoshop. First, make sure it be 8-bit (Image->Mode->Index Color...), then, make sure it actually has 256 color entries. (Image->Mode->Color Table). If there are blank entries in there, upgrade it to 24-bits (Image->Mode->RGB Color), then downgrade it to Index again. When it gives you the Index Color reduction options, set Local Perceptual in the Palette options, and make sure "Colors:" reads 256, regardless of the number it wants to give it.

Also more sprites equals less stability.

Out of curiosity, which, of the many possibilities I covered, was your texture problem?

PS. Also, thanks for cookie.

In the color table there were blank boxes, so I fixed that,

basically I followed what you said to do in photoshop, saved it in allinone2.wad and recompiled and it worked, must have not been in 8bit,

This one done? Cuz we really need a populated map that I dun have to do much scripting for. Would be nice to have a patch before August, but kinda lacking in the new maps that dun need a ton of scripting department.

Still going over my collection for options, but most all the "complete" maps I have need new scripts that are all backburnered by Sorc_Villa.
