How do I make func_water If its not on the entitys list for MSC?

make a brush using what ever texture u want to use for water, then select it and right click it go to "tie to entitie" then look for it in there.

How do I prevent leaks then :?


- How do I make A sky box ? - I followed the tutorial but got a Problem


Texture Unavalible or something and then SKY turned to another texture (stone)

The way I did it was making a hollow cube around my level then making it a skybox (but got the problem)

-Thou shall not overlap brushes- Still don't know what a offical brush is.

I quoteth from the sacred book of Saint Tommy of Escondido:

brush- a 3D object in a map, a block. Various shapes possible. Examples: block, cylinder, wedge, spike, ect. These used to make walls, floors, stairs, complex collections of brushes called prefabs, and brush entities.

brush entity- a brush tied to an entity to have a special effect or action. Example: doors, trains, elevators.

note: Do not let the image of the arc fool you - it is actually made up of several smaller brushes.

You need to include the latest Half-Life.fgd in your Tolls->Options->Game Configurations->Game Data Files. It is not advisable with work with the MS1.4.fgd alone.

Ignore the blasphemous sinner. This is a common n00b misconception. You will see no carving nor hollowing in Crow's newer maps, for they are sacred works. ;)

I can't figure out how to use the clipping tool :p

Select object to clip - then press Shift+X

Draw line through brush (make sure both ends of the line are on the grid!) :

Press Shift-X a few more times to decide weather you want to split the object, or delete one half or the other. Then press ENTER and the damage will be done.

In most cases (unlike the image above) it is usually best if each end of the clipping tool line also fall on a vertex (corner) of the object to be split.

How do I prevent leaks then?

Hollowing is more likely to get you leaks than just about anything else, rather than prevent then.

If all your vertexes (those little knobby things you see on your brushes when you select them and press Shift-V) line up with the grid, you should not get leaks. If you want a hollow box, build it one wall at a time. (Not hard)

Know that if you rotate a room, you will have to go over each vertex in the room, and ensure that they line up with the grid and one another once again.

You need a proper sky texture. There is one available in MasterSword.wad

THOU HASTH VIOLATED A PRIME COMMANDMANT:
"Thou shall not build a box around your map to avoid leaks!"

...or for any other reason. Due to the way HL works out where a player can and can't move, and what a player can and can't see - this will cause HUMUNGO lag.

Proper skyboxing is done so:

If you are using ZHLT later than 3.0, you can paint the outside of your skybrush NULL to prevent HLRAD from attempting to light outside surfaces.

oh i got confused XD i mistook the clip tool for the carv one XD i use clipping all the time :p honestly i didnt know there was a carve tool o_O




oh and yes i am quite still a noob.

Im about 40% done now BUT
Everytime I try to test my map it crashs to desktop :oldcry:

Leaving me no error to research.

CAN SOMEONE HELP?! :oldcry:

Yea I know the leak or whatever - ill try that restart steam thing in a moment but I dont see what it would do any differnt (Im probaly wrong)

MSC is very bad about reporting error message. HL1 may give you better luck.

If MSC is crashing, and HL1 isn't - it's usually a mispelled script somewhere. (Check yer monsters/npcs)
