I've gotten everything ironed out of my dedicated server, and it runs fine, other than one minor problem. With every map change, it attempts to connected to the server 3 times as usual, and then I get a "Steam Verification Error". Same thing seems to happen on RB Crunch Time server; the Steam Verification Error on map change.

Other than that, my server's all good to go thanks to this guide. Thank you, Thothie!

Yeah, that started to crop up after some Steam patch or other. It's partly that the server isn't getting back up and running in time for the client's to reconnect. It shouldn't smash the server - just the clients - and they can fix it with a "retry" at console.

ATM, we've no option to increase the time it takes clients to reconnect. The whole disconnect/reconnect thing is very hacky (a series of "wait" calls), so the time to reconnect isn't consistent between clients in any case. :/

In other words, I've no idea how to fix that without tweaking your server/box to get it to restart faster. You can try defragging the HLDS folder or increasing the HLDS priority, but I suspect the speed increase would be minor.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try that now, and see if it makes any difference.

Well I got the problem fixed server works fine by what I can tell.
Update: I got the ports forwarded so now just need to request the FN password.

I have a other problem with my server. When my server crashes it says this.
Code:
Packet Sync Error ( 3.00 / 58609)
I hope there's a way to fix this because my server is crashing all the time.

Is your server on wireless, Wishbone?

I only notice that error when my internets F up, and then the crash with that error appears.

Other crashes are edict errors.

Check and make sure your connection for your server is good.

My server is using a CAT5 and the connection is good.

That's usually caused by the game server's clock and the system clock getting way out of sync. This shouldn't normally happen, but it maybe some funky QOS setting could cause it, or just a really overloaded CPU. ( Also speed h4x. ;) )

It happens mostly, in my experience, from laggy maps in MSC, the ones that have the lag spikes every few seconds like isle or most of the WW series, are the ones most likely to cause this, the slower the cpu is the worse it'll be. you need a computer made within the past 2-3 years for you to be able to run a server with 6 or more slots without it being very very laggy. I had that crash error quite a bit on the WW series, isle and sfor with both of my computers trying to run a server on them, one a 1.3 ghz core1 based Celeron cpu(core codename: dothan. laptop >.>), the other an Amd 64 3500+ @2.2 ghz(more then fast enough to run a 12 slot sven co-op server on all but the most cpu intensive maps, but lags with a single player on sfor.).

How do I get out of this box?
Necropost YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Sorry about this.

Was there ever a fix for ye' olde bug where : Playing FN on an RKS server, then attempting to play FN on my own server results in my Central Network connection being unable to connect. - Leading to me effectively playing on LAN.

Is there any fixes, other than restarting my Client itself?

There's the obvious: Have you restarted Half-Life before attempting to make your own server? And the, somewhat, less obvious - do you have the correct password from one of the FN threads here?

One thing I've noticed is that listen servers have a buggy connection to fn, I've needed to restart my client once or twice after changing maps in a listen server because it wouldn't connect to fn after the map change.

Well, I've got the correct FN details, as I can make my listen server.

It works when I do the following.
Load up MS:C 1.2
Establish Kingdom
-> works

Doesn't work when I do the following
Play a FN server that's hosted by anything/anyone (RKS IS A ROBOT, I'M SURE OF IT)
Disconnect
Establish Kingdom
-> Does not get access to FN.
:edit: Yes, re-booting MS:C itself will fix this problem, but is there any way to stop me having to do that?

Is this a problem with my docs, if so i'll take a gander in at them. It's nothing serious, just really time consuming.

You can't just disconnect, you have to close MSC entirely to switch hosting/client types. Failing to do so when switching servers can also cause character corruption.

Oh Crap, I don't want that, it's a wonder it's not happened before.

Cheers for the info, it'll go to good use.

(Also, you're faaaaaar to fast at answering these questions - I looked at the troubleshooting thread, looked back and you had replied...you mad robot man you :D)

I get a pop-up whenever anyone posts anything here... Usually... Provided I'm either on this puter, or as I'm currently am, logged into remotely. Given the spottiness of the net where I currently am though, and the fact that I'm not on the net as often as I'd like to be either way, I cannot always guarantee this fast a response. ;)

Is that not annoying when people post a load of rubbish?
Then you're left getting a message and having to read it and all that 'yaddah'

I wouldn't mind doing that at all, but if you lived in Scotland...*shudder* they starve us of good internet. Hence why my server's rarely up for all to see.

It's like underwear - You'll only wave it above your head when : - They're clean, and there's a good Breeze.
