Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

APR2008a PUBLIC CHANGELOG:

APR2008a_pic_o_month.gif

New Stuffs:
• The Wolve's Bane
- A special light silver shortsword enchanted with wolvesbane
- Double damage vs. wolves
• Blood Drinker
- Is now in game. Sword uses basically the same script Runeghar's uses, so expect similar targeting/wallh4x behavior.
- You can use your fists while the sword is dancing (can't kick, but will work on that).
- Right click to make the sword return sooner.
- Level Requirements - base: 30, x2_dmg_stab: 32, throw: 34
[Would have added Fire Tomahawk and Dark Bone Blade, but model consolidation is not complete - Shard of Felewyn is complete, but not in game, yet]

Map Changes
• Sfor has been expanded on
- Didn't want to make nightmare_sfor without doing something for the mid-level folk too, so there's a whole new wing on Sfor, just for them
- Undamael area also available for examination (you can play with him, but the quest is not complete, he cannot be defeated - note the mirror damage)
- This was a rush job. I hope to come back and polish it later.
• B_Castle is now connected to Sfor
- There are also two new open transitions in Sfor

New Map Support For Soon TBR's:
• Ocean Crossing
• Smuggler's Cove
• Verath
• Nightmare Sfor

New Beasties:
• monsters/fire_spider_spitting - Fire Spider
- Big shiny red spider, shoots bolts of fire
• monsters/fire_spider_turret
- Ditto, but doesn't move
• monsters/fire_spider_mini - Fire spider hatchling
- Only has 10hp but is guaranteed to be the most annoying beast since the Horror
- Latches onto your body or face at random locations, biting, and hindering your movement - must be "scraped off"
• monsters/fire_reaver_mini- Fire Reaver Hatchling (untested)
- A small fire reaver whose little volcano isn't old enough to be active, but it still has a taste for burning flesh.
• monsters/slime_green - Lesser green slime
- Bugger's hit and run projectile tactics make him hard to catch, he may yet chew on your poisoned corpse

Mapper Toys:
• other/cannon_manned
- This cannon can be aimed in a 45 degree arc and fires a single 1000hp cannon ball every 30 seconds
• other/cannon_manned_fixed
- This cannon cannot be aimed and requires it be loaded with item_cannon_ball before fireing
• other/trigger_poison
- Brush scriptname poisons players that touch it. Targetname becomes the name of the attacker, target: <dmg>;<time>;[no_monsters]
• other/trigger_burn
- Convention alias for burn_1000, adjustable, same params as trigger_poison
• other/trigger_web
- Convention alias for web, no params, just targets itself.
• other/undamael_hurt, other/undamael_break, other/undamael_pitedge
- These are for Undamael operations - see Undamael documentation [pending]

Fixes/Changes:
• All corpses now fade properly, and within 20 seconds, instead of two minutes
- Should save a mess load of edicts in swarm situations, such as old_helena
• Some viewmodel consolidation (bows, 2h swords, shields, potions)
- Should also free up some edicts
- Also optimized them a bit to save some epoly's
• Fixed map sploit where dmgmulti would sometimes work when set to less than 1
• Fixed client 255 msg bug
- Or at least got it to the point where I can't duplicate it anymore. >_>

...and the usual 100,000 changes I'm not bothering to list.

Download at the usual place:
http://www.msremake.com/download.php

Some notes on Undamael:
- He cannot currently be defeated - this is pending
- His door will only open if the HP on the server averages 500 or higher
- He will appear if you circle the door to his pit a few times
- Aim for the horn on top of his head (even though, he's invulnerable right now - good practice)
- You'll know yer hitting from the mirror damage ;)
- Crossbows do not cause mirror damage - but can hit when he's vulnerable
- The wizards will have some other advice for combating him when they are put in

It's not a high end weapon (doesn't even have its own model ATM - maybe after we consolidate the 1h swords it will)... and although it was made with the map in mind, sadly, given how long most folks take to find the G spots, I suspect they'll be able to 1 hit wolves with another weapon by the time they do. :(

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

The revamped Sfor is rad. Great work Thothie.

Also, just as a question, will there ever be more hotkeys for players?
It's nice to just select things without having to cycle a few weapons pending on which map it is.
Granted, this is just for laziness and curiosity.

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

VERY GAY:

So on lodagond-1 we were farming AoBs with Stellie Jack and Fire Blizz. Later Kindom. We beat the reaver then headed onto runegahr. Got him down to about high red and we were doin good til Fire Blizz died and fed to yellow. So we got all pissed and yelled at him a bit then the tornado "fell" on me so i died. I went in again and climbed onto the ladder. Tornado is summoned out of nowhere and kills me again. It says my attacks do 80% now. So i go back in a little pissed that i died twice in less than 5 minutes. Now Fire Blizz dies again and he blames it on Kindom. Stellie threatened to kick him if he
didn't shut up. And then I die a 3rd time and lose ALL MY DAMAGE. Then Stellie dies twice and lose ALL HER DAMAGE. And of course Fire Blizz lost his and so did Kindom. And now we're suck here.

Ya, that's what I thought when I read it as I don't know of that many places with wolves 1. However, if it's a "special" item I don't think that's going to be so bad. Your map is very fun and I don't think making things "so hard" is always the best. As long as you can't find it in thornlands/edana or some other beginner map then I just think it'll be a nice touch that might even increase the enjoyment of your map. Imagine finding this blade then later when night strikes and wolves start coming you remember it and fight them off (maybe with some cool effect on the blade?). How cool would that be? It's the same thing with adventuring and finding this forest then when wolves start coming from all directions you whip out your blade. Again, I don't think making things harder is always the best. You made your map to be enjoyed right?

1 Haven't tried the new sfor but that seems like the right atmosphere for wolves. Used to be my favorite map and it's still up there so I hope Thothie hasn't done any major changing with additions (where the hell would they fit? :? Very complete map).

Beta pack looks good. I'm really looking forward to things like model consolidation (Get on it Orochi and talk to Thothie) and major bug fixes. Most people want another sword to get but I think more features (like a map or code for big things) would add a lot more. The mod has been "complete" for years but new features are possible although hard to do/take time.

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

Corn says both Mucha and TFL members, all of them, could be banned if I go to mscave and encounter (or perhaps am just seen there) a bugged chest. I find this kinda ridiculous, but what exactly are the rules for encountering bugs (and NOT exploiting them)?

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

Can always e-mail me, I'll have no idea WTF you are. ;)

Blasto has ruled in the FAQ that any "excessive exploiting" bug or otherwise, is bannable. That has, for a few, included parry whoring, so it doesn’t take much (albiet, I think that was vs. Atholo for seven hours on a locked server).

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

yes doing that kind of stuff can get you banned, purposely trying to bug a map so you can get stuff will lead to punishing. As for the cave bug your fine on the map as long as you keep the player count low.

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

What if a person once upon a time parry whored and regrets it now but it's too late to get a roll back. Could that person get his parry h4xed down a bit?

Should warn ye, it's not the number of players, but the number of hitpoints. Ye need a certain number of HP to get the two bugged chests to spawn.

I *really* don't want to make a mandatory patch in the middle of the month, but I'm sure not all servers are on the interim, so I don't see any other way.

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

in which case the map should be off limits, if its HP not people that bugging it. The issue with exploits is they are so much harder to track... One of the big reasons why I haven't gone all ban happy on all the people who parry whore, while I know lots of people do it its next to impossible to just use it as an excuse to punish people. I mean really what makes a parry whore? Someone who has two shields and stands around and lets things hit him? or is it someone who makes a server and locks it with the name "parry whoring"?

its kind of a gray area its not straight forward, by all means if I was to crack down on exploit use most of TFL would be hit. Further more it would most likely discourage people from talking about them openly more so than it is now. So I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. If people would just play nice and not use exploits then things would be easier, however as people we like the path of least resistance and exploits sure do make things easier

I'll let you decide then, cuz I'm kinda torn... Should I make the APR2008b patch mandatory or not?

It'd fix the MSCave sploit, but it's kinda cruel to force everyone to update their servers mid-month with very little warning. I suspect we could also route out a lot of semi-dishonest servers by just seeing which servers fail to update. (Although I know Hellsdiner won't update without direct notification, but that's just because the host doesn't actually play.)
