Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

Go Shurik3n for determining that character overflow is caused by inventory size, rather than file size.

YARGBLEBLE I'VE BEEN SAYING THAT FOREVER >_<

And it's not inventory size specifically. The overflow is caused by any character info that must be sent to the client. The inventory just happens to be the largest contributor.

Still, stab you >_<

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

The recompile of Ara only has some small changes. The multipliers of the orcs in the forest are now lower, some bugs have been fixed and a couple of other minor things were done. Nothing big in other words, but it should be a tad better now. I hope I didn't break anything.

Oh, and great betapack release once again. Btw, you forgot monsters/zombie_bile from the update list.

Go me for figuring how to merge the giant rat and wolf models. ;)

How do you managed to merge the animations?

Of all the vast number of things you've not gotten credit for, you bring up that one. ;)

Actually, we’d better hope it’s just the inventory size. Makes sense though, as it doesn’t load all the character data in one go, but inventory is all one single chunk.

Just renamed them. The only one with a matching name in this case was “run” so I just decompiled wolfie, renamed his run animation “run_wolf”, and stuck it into the rat model, and wrote up the script accordingly. The wolf and rat share the same origin (as I suspect most all the monsters do), so there weren’t any other major issues.

One side effect is the wolf’s hitbox is the same size as the giant rat’s, but this only affects traceline damage, so it only becomes an issue with healing and ice shield, and even then, the rat’s hitbox is a bit oversized, so it’s not a huge deal.

This game just got 10 times better :D I'm excited about the new pets. Do we get pet-roll-backs?

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

If yer pet dies? No... Maybe if it corrupts your character in some way that makes it unplayable though.

I should point out that the wolf is kind of a low-level pet. Keeping it alive at level 30+ will be kinda like owning a gold fish. ;)

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

Aww, I was hoping the pet would act as some sort of worthwhile travelling companion. And the deadly bugs that can destroy your pet forever makes any serious training kinda meaningless. But... higher-level pets?

Btw.. have any idea when the sxbow will come out :? ?

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

Pet system is something I didn't expect seeing before the title system, though it's nice to see it already this fast and hope we can get a taste of the title system in this year, since it's probally the biggest feature I'm looking foward to.

Well, I personally don't care much about the title system. It seems like just that.. a title for the sake of vanity. Although I suppose it would add some flavor. You do get tired of seeing Fencers everywhere.

So it will die in about a day no matter what you do? >_>;;

Oh, and it's not really the credit I care about. Teach ya'll not to listen to me, though >_>

It's not quite THAT bad, but until you train it quite a bit, you'll want to leave it at the start of any non-n00b map, and you'll need to learn to keep it away from hazards. It'll take a bit of practice to get the hang of them, so I'd be prepared to lose a pet or two while learning.

I don't like to encourage this sort of thing, but if you can transfer your wolf charm to a younger character, it might be interesting to see how it works for him.

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

Mouse, do you realize the title system will come with different stat boosts per title?

Also Thothie, I must congratulate you, that wolf/rat consolidation is the most hacky consolidation ever (seems like a separate boneset can be added to a same .smd)

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

The Wolf levels WAAAY to slow to follow the player. I spent a sh*tload of time getting my wolf around 150 exp guess how much extra damage it does. EXP/100. :| It has lots of hp though. It'd be nice if it, at some point, evolved to a bigger wolf.

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

I was thinking of seeing if I could overlap the stone troll model onto the skeleton, similarly - pet golum.

Again, the wolf is a low level pet. He starts with 150hp/5dmg, works his way up to 1500hp/50dmg. If the pet behaves, we'll offer bigger wolves (alpha, shadow, and winter), that will likely start clost to the standard wolf's max.

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

If I can make em work with the rat model, I was thinking bats and eagles after wolves... Just because they don't have to worry about cliffs. ;)

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

Just wandering if the undamael seals are actually IN game at this moment or if we have to wait for nm_sfor. Any comment Thoth?

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

They are in game. The symbols are scattered throughout the game world.

Undamael can be defeated without nm_sfor... Indeed, how you'll get to nm_sfor, is to kill any one of the priests and release Undamael. The map concept is basically going to be what he's supposed to be like if he's released at full power - I'm just slow on getting it done.

Re: Beta-package Update News & Discussion

I like the idea of pets evolving, that way all pets have a use for everyone, instead of one making all others obsolete, then another better one coming out, making that one obsolete, so you actually develop loyalty with a pet type. Maybe you could somehow make the pets hazard/immune? Like, tag a flag onto hazards associated with pets or something so that they don't take the damage/insta-death?
