Don't set your hopes too high. ;)

The idea is to get a more action oriented, formulaic system, that will be easy to expand on.

Formulaic, so we don't get into this situation where we can't add intermediate spells without fuxing with the leveling progress. We'll know exactly what level each spell should be based on its type, damage, area, and effects - hopefully making all schools equally viable in the process.

Action oriented, in that we'll, hopefully, have a more rapid-fire oriented spell system, where your mana pool generates entirely over a few seconds, and your spell selection will be wider, based more on what your current MP capacity can handle. In other words, you'll be able to choose between lots of small booms in quick succession, or one big boom every few moments.

As for the Earth sphere, asked about elsewhere, that's kinda up in the air right now. Original idea was to make the sphere Dwarf exclusive, but since it didn't seem we were going to have a Dwarf race to work with anytime soon, I was considering abandoning this idea. Now that it seems possible we might, however... I dunno...

Sticky points being - that we'll likely need some new spell animations. Second sticky point, being that we'll need a client<->server attack communication, to make it viable. Idea being to make spells almost entirely client side, and the client just reports back to the server where the projectile landed - somewhat similar to how most melee weapon attacks work now - but more flexible. I'll likely have to get some advice from MiB on getting that bit to work.

If we're really lucky, we'll also be able to do one handed spells - though they won't be as effective when used that way. Likely double the mana cost, half the firing rate. Likely it'll still be useful in cases where the spell debilitates the monster in some way though.

It'll probably result in the elimination of the excess spell divisor, but how much impact that has on the leveling rate, will be reflected in the power (or lack thereof) of the new spells. However, as we'll likely be making all spell requirements dependent on their individual skills, rather than SC, and the mana pool will be calculated differently, it won't much matter.

Quick question, is there any plans for lvl 40+ tier gear in the future? Just wondering about it now, also what is the lvl tier for apostle items whenever they get released? :eek:

EDIT:
Why not just release earth skill for all races? Whenever dwarves race gets released, make them exclusively stronger with earth skill compared to humans/elves.
Really now, i would like to get to use earth spells even as a human and not as a dwarf only... :|

Trying to keep weapon requirements at least 10 levels below the current cap.

50+... Although the requirement to actually enter the Apostle phase is to be 60, which is to be the final level cap. That's about the widest level range we can handle, within reason, and even that's going a bit above and beyond reason, nevermind various technical issues.

Unless some mapper suddenly gets done unexpectedly, then I shall arrange something. There are currently four WIPs that I know of, so it could happen.

Bug fixes and performance enhancements are a constant effort. Every patch includes a lot of such fixes, but every patch seems to introduce new bugs and performance issues as well, so it's a never ending battle. :/

Maps include one by Lockdown, that I'm apparently not supposed to name, Sgt. Rehab's Hunderswamp, something or other that Joe!'s working on, and Crow's Oculus. Oh yeah, and Tigerkev's working on Run.

I also have a Tundra by Joe!, semi-complete, but it needs quite a bit of work... Including an OC landing. Need to figure what I did with Little-G's killer whales...

Spell system is coming very slowly - I still need to hit up MiB in regards to some coding questions related to that.

Eh.... Hrmmm... Fuuu... IDK...

It would be just an sc.dll fix - but it's one of those weird mixed client<->server functions.

Such a minor patch would have to be optional, and I'd have to get our ever-so-massive beta-test crew together to find out how it would behave against an unpatched server, and a patched server, against an unpatched client. What sort of strangeness would result...

Be worth looking into though, as things are going so slow on the spell end, I've no clue how long it's gonna take. We've only got one map, and it's so cruddy, it isn't worth a patch in and of itself, on top of which it needs a lotta work. Hrmmm...

so uhh why the nerf. of hxbow? just so animation can look proper?

that's cool ... could you make the dps stay the same?
ie 50% slower but 100% more power?
