What? You want more loot and less content and storyline, and you're not downloading our patches because DAoC has two expansions that add two more ways of leveling?

I'm not quite sure what you're aiming at here... I said very little about Master Sword in that quote, other than things I wished for.

If we added Classes back, where you can specialize, we could add abilities that you gain based on levels, to give you something to look forward to.

That.

Not downloading any patches cause of ideas, like that.

And its not about what you wish for, its what the general people want.

My outlook on things like this are if people vote for yes AND NO, there should be an option to use something. If everyone votes YES, you don't need an option. And if everyone votes NO, you don't implement it. You should try to make EVERYONE happy with the mod instead of saying along the lines of , " Well this is what I want and 14 other people agree so fuck the other 8 people "

I would rather have you guys spending time to make sure the community has what it wants, maps, weapons, monsters. Not spend your time making a "story line"

So you're saying you don't want to be able to specialize in an area and become stronger on that part? For what reason? As I've said earlier, you would be able to respecialize to something else when you desire, and you wouldn't be locked at something, only you wouldn't get Warrior specialization abilities when being an Assassin.

And you have to understand that we will never make everyone happy. It's not possible.

I took why people who voted no would get mad into consideration when implementing this, and foresaw no unfortunate consequence that would make them suffer in any way.

It's not like those people are going to be stuck at level 10 or 12 forever (I am lowering those weapons who received 15, to 12. Those originally at 15, remain at 15).

I wont change something back because someone doesn't like a feature based on their principles.

Restriction at 12 still allow for casual play.

The only thing I've suggested that has come through is the level restrictions, and I've suggested quite a few things.

By the way, I naturally didn't place a vote for this on my behalf.

It is impossible to make everyone happy. That is pretty naive if you truly think that way. I am actually a fan of specializing. Why not make your character unique? As it is now anyone can master everything, and therefore everyone eventually becomes the same as everyone else. That is what is really boring. Variety is needed in these types of games.

He is one person, and has one voice. Just like every one of us. Is there something wrong with him stating what he would like to see implemented? He isn't allowed to have ideas? It isn't as if he is changing things on every whim he gets without first posting about it. This is a forum. It is for discussion. All he is doing right now is discussing.

I am a fan of games with a good story line. The gameplay has to be there, and if it isn't exactly revolutionary gameplay, but has an engaging deep story line, then it is a good game in my eyes. I have played many games that were basically interactive books, and enjoyed every one of them. This mod obviously won't go to that extent being a FPS and all, but damn it if it doesn't have any lore.

Edit

Bah, Evaan beat me to responding.

I don't like how have I hunt and work for rare items. There should be a command to spawn any item because some people don't like having to find them. Its just not fair to us *whine* *whine* *whine*.

I'm standing in as shurikens l33t parrot, *ahem* " *squak!* i think w3 shud jus make evrything realy hvy cause a level 20 dagger shud weigh 100 stone cuz that makes sense nd story dun matter juz gimme loots kk? *squak!*"

But really, level restriction is realistic from a mechanics point of veiw, a compromise would be some complicated system of nerfing the damage you do with said high level weapon if you don't meet it's skill level to use.

So the devs could beat themselves to death with code to devise/balance said suggested compromise, or they could just say "Um... level to 20 in axes.... n00b.. it takes what? A few days from scratch?". Personally, I woulden't care if they ramped the levels to where I coulden't use my favorite weapons, least I'd have a goal and a reason to play.

To me, level restrictions are great. Its like if a new player gets a Torkalath, they wouldn't know how to wield and use it. Would probably cut themselves badly if they tried.

One can only wish that some hapless noob would see this message in the future...
"You swing your torkalath blade at a rat (0/100) CRITICAL MISS!"
"you stab yourself with your torkalath blade for 75.4 damage"
"you have killed yourself with your torkalath blade, perhaps you should weild something less dangerous, like plastic sciccors"

seems like level restrictions are just bashing on new players... and making the veterans feel like their e-peen has grown larger

I *love* the restrictions, sorry, but I fully love them, this actually has made my effort to get everthing to equal level worth it! Not only I'm stronger than everone in my level but I also can use every single weapon now, and a lot of high levels (25-30-35) can't use their new weapons because they decided to go for only 2 or 3 skills, I don't know, but this was an excellent choice and I also love to see more weapons than GiBS and Golden axes.

(also gives better trades ; D)

Suggestion for realism and balancing: Rather than have each weapon have it's own restriction level, I think you should group weapons that make sense and give them the same restriction: (Read on, it's different than what you think)

For example:
The skullblade set. Someone who's strong, but knows nothing of swordsmanship, would have a hard time using this properly (and since we can't really add a way to "misuse" weapons, it would be restricted). Now, instead of Dull-Perfect having different restrictions, they would all be the same level. This makes more sense, since a sharpened version isn't going to make much difference in how you wield the mostly-same sword. (I dunno if SBs are the same level already, but example)

In the same way, knowing how to work a large, heavy sword isn't going to teach you much about using light, fast blades, such as Elven blades. All elven blades, since they're the same (essentially), would have the same restriction level, but different from SBs. They would probably be higher, too, as they require a more advanced style of swordsmanship than swinging a large piece of metal.

Oh, and I haven't posted this because it wasn't real worth it, but picking up an item doesn't necessarily give you the ability to swing it. I'll stay away from the stupid examples (because they're not really applicable) of picking up a stack of boxes or what not, and just point out that there are a lot of MAGIC weapons. Magic wouldn't make something heavier (may even make it lighter), and someone who has no idea what they're doing with an Ice Blade, while they may be strong, would probably hurt themselves with the inability to control the weapon's magic.

Why not quit the game instead of throwing out WORSE ideas? (More weight? Options to turn it off? LOL)

Oh wait, 'cause you're an annoying dick who likes to b*tch about something that the majority of the community is ok with.

You've already stated you aren't going to DL patches. Fine. Don't download them. Now be quiet and accept the fact that the rest of us are going to continue downloading because we like them.

worse ideas? I'd rather have realism, but if you're against life then I dunno.'

I'm guessing your train of thought is this :

Step 1: Remove all possibility of new player getting decent weapon
Step 2: Remove all possibility of new player being able to use said weapon
Step 3: Add several possibilities for yourself to get said weapon
Step 4: ????
Step 5: PROFIT

Bad idea, because the previous time this happened (level restrictions on the greater ice blade, novablade, etc.), tons of people got pissed off.

I refer to this post when I say, I am pissed off. Just like tons of other people.

I don't refer to 20 odd people being the majority, what about the other players without forum accounts? Is that a reasonable thought?

I can think of a handful of people who never saw this but now bitch to me when they found out about these caps.

How hard is it to make a command such as ms_restrictions 1 or 0, I'm sure all the level caps use the same various lines of codes, just with different variations.

oh wait, if I say that i'm an automatic noob and my reply is ignored and instead replied with a : NO I LIEK LEVEL CAPS SHUT UP ZOMG *WHINE* *WHINE* *WHINE*

So your idea of realism is making a dagger weigh more than a large, large hunk of wood? Mmhmm. I've posted my idea for making it more realistic, but quite frankly, you're playing a game with magic, elves, dwarves, etc. Cry about it.

And no, I'm thinking that I don't want to see twinked out noobs. I should never see level 5s with GIBs just because the high levelled players don't have anything better to do with them. This is an adventure game. You're supposed to explore, find your own stuff, beat your own bosses, earn your own equipment.

Who's to say you won't earn your equipment? Fight the hard boss, get the reward? I'd like to be able to USE IT. How is that not EARNING IT, playing through the gauntlets, and getting all the way to the boss?

I would propose something like,

Dagger - 2 LBs
Sword - 10 - 15 LBs
Axe - 20 - 40 LBs

Something like that, with variants due to materials,

Like, a great axe would weigh 70 pounds but a Gold Axe 75 pounds due to its gold. Solid gold adds weight to something, believe it or not.

I think its a good idea just to add weight because, THERE WILL STILL BE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS. But you wont be forced to say, raise sword to 20 to use nova blade. You could raise your, say blunt, to 10 or 15 for the strength and endurance to be able to carry the nova blade. Of course, your damage could still be affected by level. Everyone wins. We have big American dance party.

I'm trying to dish out realistic ideas. Even oblivion tries to stay away from level requirements.. it just doesn't make a good game. The only game I've seen succeed from level requirements is WoW (which, btw, if anyone actually pays for that game, you have no life. Play private servers, bitch 8))

Blame the level requirements, then. If you can take a boss, you should be able to use the equipment IN A SENSE. If you're a sword guy, you shouldn't be able to use a dagger (with 1 SA) just because you can kill the boss.

Your weights are way off: look in console and you'll find that you can carry a lot more than you think. I think I'm up to a 1600 max. And in any case, that once again is a bad system.

1. It punsihes high levels because suddenly we weigh a LOT more than we would. I like to be able to move.
2. It makes certain skills better than others. For instance, you're giving blunt and axe an advantage over the other stats because if you train one level of those, you can instantly use a BUNCH of other weaponry because your weight limit has increased. Train one level of small arms and you're stuck with the low end stuff, still.
3. You don't take into account that you need more than the strength to lift a weapon to use it. I said it before and I'll say it again: You need to know HOW to use a weapon, not just be able to swing it.

You keep claiming how you want realism. Well you know what? Gold is a soft metal. That's right. So why would a gold axe do more damage than any other? If anything it should be perpetually dull. Due to the natural softness of gold it is impossible to keep sharp.

I do like the idea that Dull through Perfect versions of the same weapon shouldn't have different requirements. That way if you can afford to spend a little extra, or get lucky and find a better quality weapon, you can still be rewarded by slightly increased damage.

Level restrictions will be applied to items according to their rarity. You wont be seeing the rusty sword having a level 5 restriction.

I woulden't complain, this system is actually quite leniant, considering level 30-40 bosses are dropping level 15-20 level requierment weapons. So even with the requierments I'm sure people are usin gthose weps even though they'dhave to get them from a higher level player and can't get them themselves.
