I am developing a Half-Life Map of Solomons's Temple. The benifits are to use the map as a refrence of work that you have developed. The map will be very valuable for researchers also. I have many scholars that are going to make it an almost exact replica of the Old Temple. It will have many developers and modelers and ect... so all together it is not that much for one man to the many that are to develop.

It could be done in either HL1 or HL2, but would need to be made in sections.



Eg, inside and outside are different areas of the map, teleporting from the entrance outside to the enterance inside. However, there appears to be lots of details like pillars etc, detail on such a large map will need to be low, even for HL2. Special use of hint brushes and portals is highly advised, this is not a map I recommend making unless you have serious determination and a whole load of skill behind you.



Ambition is always the greatest killer, and in my honest opinion a smaller level (maybe just the inside, or a smaller building (take out details)) would be more appropriate. This just seems a huge task.

Thanks that will help alot on our development on it. I am very glad to hear it is possible to have made on Half-life 1. Would it be possible to fit just the inside of the temple and have it High Quality?

In HL1, its going to need to be very simple with good tectures, you can up the polys in HL2 a bit, but its still not going to look as good as what I persive you'll want it, take a small part of the inside and give it your all, but its going to take a fair bit of time.

looks good.. but it will probably take as long to make the map as to making the real building :O

Could I make these maps like they did In half-life to were you walk past a section and it loads the next part of the map but the other section is a whole other map itself? I need to fit the Whole thing but if i did do it by teleportation you mean were it loads another map as a add-on to the other one? I hope that wasn’t confusing.

You could make transitions but that would force your map into singleplayer. Unless you make it compatible for Sven Co-Op where you can have people run into transitions in online games too.
