Giant Rats give too much XP, I managed to level my polearms to 2 in less than a day. Please fix this, for the children.

I should probably add "team whine would never" and "seriously" qualifiers to that statement. ;)

In game, however, I actually hear people complaining about stuff being overpowered all the time though - I suspect folks are generally just too intimidated to post on the subject. ...and I must admit, in the once-in-a-blue-moon that they do, sh*tstorm usually ensues, so I can't blame them.

In-game I see plenty of people say that certain weapons are (vastly) underpowered, that certain monsters give (way) too little XP and/or (related) that some maps are terrible. I suspect people generally don't post about it in the boards because they're afraid that you (or the mapper(s)) might get offended and stop developing for MS:C.

Dead-on reason why I will never see myself reaching 30 MA... too difficult (Rather, waaaaay too time consuming) to level.

Oh, of course... Wasn't meaning to suggest I don't see ten times the whining in game. It's *much* easier to whine about things that work against you. Indeed, even in those, comparatively, rare moments I see folks whining about overpowered things, it's usually just out of jealousy. Either way, it's always "me me me!" It's a rare thing indeed to find someone who can look at the game from a objective perspective, as people are inevitably more concerned with themselves than the state of the world around them.

Even when things are seen from an objective perspective, you tend to just ignore them.

As per usual for that sort of complaint, it is not taking into account as to what happens if all weapon lines are equal, so no, that's not objective either, unless it's simply a cry to nerf the bear claws.

Oh and im ok with bearclaws the way they are.

Yeah i agree, martial arts are too booring to lvl up and takes ages..
Realy need a new wep between Bear claws and Demon Claws. that is good, witch will lead to it being fun to lvl......
Or if you dont have time just alter another ma wep like venom claws to be more useable.

Or just take a shield and make it a martial arts wep :roll:

I seem to remember something about a SC based martial arts weapon called Mage Hands, but that was a long time ago.

Anyway, the gap between 20-30 MA makes a lot more sense if you view bear claws as a reward for grinding that much.

There are similar (but somewhat less daunting) gaps for getting to use level 30 swords and level 30 smallarms, but they just aren't as flashy and badass looking as turning into a goddamn bear.

Folks would level faster, that's what would happen. It would rather defeat the purpose of making some skills harder to level than others, as it's been since the beginning of time, ie. to make optimal leveling more difficult - to, at the very least, force folks to go back and grind out older skills. (Think we've only been over this point a half billion times...)

If I were to go back and rebalance every weapon line, there'd have to be a global XP nerf to compensate (or perhaps, raised XP requirements to level). As it is, I've been considering evening up the weapon lines at some high level, though the flaw in that plan is that leveling would accelerate from that point on - and while it's countered by the fact that there's just not enough high end maps to feed epic-level characters, it also puts such characters up against the wall sooner. On the other hand, it also encourages players who are already up against the wall in every other respect, to go back and pick up their more atrophied skills, giving them something to do with the characters below their level, other than twinking.

A far, far better way to accomplish those goals, Thothie, is not to make certain weapon types worse than others, but to simply make certain weapon types harder to obtain.

If blunt arms and spell casting are going to be more difficult to level, the weapon types in question shouldn't suck. That defeats the purpose of leveling (most of us don't level SC after a certain point because it's pointless). Instead, they should be harder to obtain and impossible to twink.

You're assumption that players will go back and level up their unleveled skills is wrong at some level. I plan to gain one more blunt arms level and maybe one more spell casting level and then I am unlikely to touch them ever again until the system is changed. Leveling blunt arms consists of running one or two maps over and over again. It consists of pointing and clicking, using up all your charges and reloading the map. And for what? The only time I ever use any spell other than healing circle, ice shield, volcano or the hoarfrost shard is when I am leveling up spell casting for no reason other than to level up spell casting.

The most important thing that can be done is to make each weapon category unique, as right now most swords, daggers, and blunts function almost exactly the same. The only difference is the damage type and that just does not make for interesting gameplay.

tl;dr
If it comes down to it, I'd much rather have a global xp nerf if it meant all of our weapon categories would be both unique and useful than stick with the current system, which consists primarily of point and click weapons, some of which are (deliberately) more useful than others.

I think we've made it quite clear that there's no way to make weapons difficult to obtain - even the forge system hasn't cut it.

Well, you can wait until MSS then. I'm not going to edit over 100 weapon scripts and thousands of monster vulnerabilities in order change fundamental game mechanics dating back to the game's inception. I've been putting off revamping the 24 spell system for years as it is, and even that, I didn't want to make easier to level, just to level more evenly within its own scope.

In anycase, eventually, you have no choice.

The game was originally designed to last a year before you hit the level wall, and now we've got folks getting even the harder to level stats in the 30's within two months (Hell, the last character I rolled back managed to get Archery and MA 28 in less than two months). These days, your average fresh player nears the level wall in three to four months, and most who hit the wall these days don't even know their way through Mscave.

I only had to grind from 27-30 for my bearclaws... having no good weapons on the server forced me to use kick as a primary team stratigy. But in these higher level zones the stratigy is becoming less and less viable, nothing can be stunned anymore :(

I don't think this is fair to say after Umulak was allowed to go on for as long as it was. The vast majority of the game now has 700-900 HP and they all got there by exploiting Umulak. I don't think your argument is true, at all, in any way, save for the fact that exploitable maps are allowed to be exploited for almost a year at a time.

I don't mean to be rude, but the recent spike in levels that we've seen is kind of all your guys' fault.
