Re: [Section 1] Dridje's Entry/Entries

I'd like to play Ns1 again as I have a lot of connectivity issues with 2, but I seriously doubt people play it still.
And yes, Fuck CO mode.

NS1 has about 30 servers online, most of which are empty, fakefull'd, and bot trainers. Of those, 10 will be empty, 10 will be fakefull'd, another 5 will be bot trainers with 1-2 kids in each. Then you'll see 4 co_ games, and 1 ns_ game with active people in them, which will be one of 3 things:
  • Crappy ping
  • Runs game altering mods ie. superlift, resource sucking, etc
  • About to change map to co_ in <10 min
I would give a limb just to play one round of classic NS.. :|

Re: [Section 1] Dridje's Entry/Entries

when i was playing. there were quite a few people (not fake full) but yeah they were all modded and it did seem a little like they were hacking or something.

i was thinking of throwing up a marine v marine server for a while. but i have no idea about their ss mods or how to work them.

Glad this thread is for Natural Selection!

Anyhoo, what type of enemies would be here, Dridje? Banditos, or some type of ninja orcs?

I'm surprised you're not recommending that we go the DeraliaSewer route and make the monsters 'dridje' themed. Y'know, put gloams and mummies in it, and anything else that may have been featured prominently in a Dridje map prior to this one.

Given the description, would make most sense to have bandits/mercenaries/assassins/thieves or something like that in the map. Perhaps along with a few tamed pets they carry about.

I werz making a joke in that they are modded Natural Selection models. I always did wanna make a Khara infestation Easter egg / tribute - just dun think a lotta folk would get the gag, at this point.

Given that Dridje's maps cover, pretty much, every mob in the game, it's kinda hard to make a Dridje themed map... Save, maybe with an army of Jerdid's fighting at your side.

Oh, I see. I actually think we should steal more NS models.

Re: [Section 1] Dridje's Entry/Entries

@Thoth

Instead of PMing you I've decided to post my custom script requests here in hopes that everyone interested can voice their opinion and criticisms.

Similiar to Sorc_Villa, this map would have 2 versions. In the hostile map, you basically murder everything that moves and then fight the boss(es) and hope for item drop. This version of the map wouldn't have anything too interesting because there's not much to do besides cleanse this cove. The other map (friendly) is a lot more interesting.

Rat Fighting Bandit (No name yet)
There needs to be a bandit who takes your money when you place a bet on which rat will win, and then gives back whatever amount depending on if your rat wins and however many people bet on the fight. I would like to have quite a few rats so the rounds feel more random. It would be interesting to have rats with leather armour skins on em and unique names. eg.Bloodtail vs Daggerteeth

Task Board (Name pending)
Upon map load, when players visit the board, there could be differing activities listed that can be accepted and worked on whenever the player feels up to the task. It could be various things like assassinating a target, collecting an item to bring back to the cove, or joining up with bandits to attack a town or something. Basically just a bunch of randomized quests. I would really like this as it would keep people visiting the map often. Also, rewards can vary too, depending on how hard a task is. Even better, I'd like the players to have to unlock the harder tasks by doing enough in the previous catagory.

Various merchants
I'd like to have some merchants who can sell items that 30+ players would deem useful. The price would be quite high, however, since this is a place of greed. Maybe the more infamy you have the better a discount you'd get? Also their stock would be randomized since it's unlikely they'd steal a ton of great merchandise often. I'd like the map to have a new item or two, but these would be extremely rare and expensive (no discount). Alternatively, you can try to get these items the more 'traditional way'.

Blacksmith (No name yet)
This guy could help you get some bandit looking armour if the price is right and materials are found? He could be required to make the players some Elite Black Armour (See bandit leader).

Cove Leader (No name yet)
This is the guy in charge of the cove, he's the leader for a reason. This guy (on the hostile version) will be the final boss and can drop the new items for those lacking enough patience or gold to acquire the new item. You will not be able to interact with him normally until you have enough infamy. If you meet the requirement, one of his Sheriffs will find the player and inform him that the leader wishes to see him/her. The coven leader will assign the players some difficult longer quests and after a certain amount are done, will allow you to wear some unique Elite Black Armour. I was also thinking about another idea but I don't know how well this would work. If you become a loyal associate to him and the cove, you'd perhaps be able call for assistance once per map which includes 1-2 bandits spawning to help you out in a fight.

Infamy scale
Surely a system can be rigged up that as you do more infamous quests/tasks, a number slowly goes up and with each NPC interaction they check your number before applying perks to player requests. (Eg. discounting item from merchant or getting to talk with Leader). However, this meter can go down or be completely restarted if the player plays the other version of the map.

I think I've got everything. I'll make a new post if I think of anything else that I want to request/talk about.

It's not like I wasn't going to ask you for very similar stuff at some point or another. I'm sure myself and other mappers can use modified versions of these scripts in our own maps.

My thoughts on these ideas:

Rat Fighting will be an awesome feature and it can serve as the basis for battles at the famed dwarven arena, whenever I actually get around to making that.

I think the bulletin boards with random quests should refresh every day instead of at map load. That will prevent players from simply reloading the map until they get the quest they want.

I love the idea of having various merchants that sell rare equipment that is otherwise difficult to farm. If these shops could refresh after a time period rather than map reload, I think that would be ideal.

I don't know if a blacksmith is the appropriate npc to forge what appears to be leather armor. A tanner might be a better option. Another forge is always a good idea, though.

The Infamy scale is similar to my personality system and therefore I like the idea. If darkness level can rise and fall based on your attacks, I'm sure an infamy level can fall or rise depending on your actions. I am opposed to the idea of having a mechanism that just resets it to 0, though. Something like this shouldn't be exclusive to just this map, either.

I think any item besides specific titles could be sold, for example "THE Hoarfrost" as opposed to "A Bludgeon Hammer"

It's viable - but it'll take a looong ass time. I'd suggest you rig up your hostile version first, if you want the map to see the light of day within the next six months (or recruit a scripter/learn to script yourself). You'll need to be a bit more specific on some aspects though.

Re: [Section 1] Dridje's Entry/Entries

I have an idea that expands upon rat fighting.

There should be extra rewards for winning a certain amount of bets in a row. For example, if you bet on the winning rat five times consecutively, an npc will give you a special prize. At certain intervals, you can either cash in your prize or continue gambling in hopes of getting an even rarer item. If your rat loses you receive no prize and your 'winning streak' resets to 0. If you win 20 bets in a row, you get Orochis coat.

Re: [Section 1] Dridje's Entry/Entries

how about instead of rats, we see something more serious, like ogres, trolls and the likes. And instead of having this random streak luck with ms:c (which is not likely to never happen unless, oh noes, exploits!), make a tournament amongst pets/summons, and the tournament winner gets to pick new unique rewards, like new pet charms, or new summons.
Could even make it so that people can only get one from said tournament, and in order to change rewards, we would have to get rid of the old one and redo the tournament from scratch and win it again.

Example: [FINAL MATCH] Shadow wolf vs Winter wolf , place your bet on either, the side who wins gets to pick on pets/summons available from a npc interaction menu.

This would be a nice example of setting up matches between player pets, pets vs animals, pets vs mini bosses (?), and would be nice if said rewards included:
-new pet charms (boars, eagles, bludgeons, spiders, w/e);
-new summons (rats can gtfo, again. Plus we have boars which look alot better anyways, also mages that aid players in fight, like holy mage, banishes the enemies with holy might! while also providing random heals from rejuv/regen/aura);
-pet xp increase (give some nifty xp reward to your pet);
-current pet upgrade (extra resists/dmg reduction/increased speed or elemental effects/add certain random spells to pets that could be unleashed randomly in a fight [aiding the pet and the player when needed]).

There are so many great things you can think of, why stick with a simple arena that puts rats face to face and have a leadboard for said event? Seems a little bit stupid to me when i think about it, some more thought put into it and you can suggest something so much better (even better than what i just suggested, obviously).

That makes no sense...

Oyster is basically trying to pull a "roll" system on this rat arena fight thingie, which is a bad idea imo, pretty sure it can be exploited, if not, it's also a miserable way of doing things, like hell, who is going to win 20 bets in a row in ms:c? Such blasphemy! :roll:

Just put it like this, go try and "roll 2" ingame 20 times, and tell me how many times you get 1 (win) and 2 (loose), this is how the betting system would end up like, not good.

It should be a tournament or something similiar, you accumulate score throughout matches and win after a few rounds (perhaps 5 rounds per tournament?).

And i was thinking, perhaps the best "balanced & fair" way to do this would be to automatically give each player a selection of entries equally balanced, like... 4 possible options to be picked for the arena (eg: fire d.o.t wolf-ice d.o.t wolf- thunder d.o.t wolf-acid d.o.t wolf), players/npcs would annonymously select a wolf for the match, fire is weak to ice and vice versa, same goes to thunder vs acid, so it would all play out well, and luck would be required to win most of the rounds. Say you win over 3/5 matches, you are elligible to get something, if you manage to do 5/5 with those kind of odds, you could get something better/additional rewards.

Tbh, if all 4 wolves had the same stats and dealt normal damage + elemental d.o.t, only thing differing would be weakness to the opposite element, that could play out really well, 25% odds of being instantly boned by the stronger opposite element, 25% odds of instantly winning against the weak opposite element, 50% of randomly winning or loosing against a non-weak element or same element (eg: thunder vs thunder, no d.o.t applies as they would be immune to each other, would depend on non elemental damage to run through a match of this kind).

Don't take this "elemental wolves" suggestion seriously, it's just a way of putting things and to try and clarify much better ways of doing this ingame event in Dridje's map.

I have officially withdrawn my entries from the competition and these maps may be the last things you see from me in regards to mapping, should they get finished.

I'm tired of waiting for Valve to fix their **** up and as I posted in the other thread, the 'fix' doesn't work for me. I'm tired of having to use jury rigged fixes (See Optimus thread). Lastly, there's been some drama recently between some people here, names will be withheld so no more drama arises.

I'd like to continue playing, but nobody **** knows when that'll happen.

I'd support moving to another engine 110%

Thank you for voicing your concerns and being professional about it. Thanks for competing anyways and I look forward to still seeing you in game and on the boards.

Why do you have to withdraw? Let the judges judge your work so we can actually have a successful contest. The contest was actually turning out successful until now.
