Shove off, this is the off-topic section. Any other nerfs people wanna throw in here? How about the nerf Congress is about to put on credit card rates, to make sure people don't get so screwed by them?

You are right; at the moment, my intelligence is indeed nerfed.

So, how many people have played Gothic III? You may or may not know about the latest community patch, which fixed a minor exploit to make a tiny bit more munz in-game? And how it is hard as fuck to make munz purely legit like, due to other nerfs that have been made, making your character a broke ass bitch all game? Yea, I hate it. Maybe if special items were worth more... I'd be happy (then again, I might have awful micromanaging skills on that game).

Fuck that man, I have a 28" Hanns-G LCD, 1080P shit man! That would nerf my monitor's display so freakin bad, if I threw it out my window.
Speaking about nerfing... did you hear they nerfed that poor little baby in the UK? The one that was born with some disease keeping his lungs from properly forming, and restricting limb movement, that was around thirteen months old? They had life support pulled, since it was decided he wouldn't have a worthy life with such a disabling disease, needing a machine to breath for him.

Nerf
Trademark. any of various toys modeled esp. on sports equipment but made of foam rubber or other soft substances.

dictionary.com

and this according to urban dictionary, To make worse or weaken, usually in the context of weakening something in order to balance out a game.

also according to urban dictionary lol, Nerfs are grumpy, antlered herbivores, resembling yaks, raised on many planets, including Alderaan, Gestron and Corellia, for their milk and meat. Herders of the beasts are well known for being as scruffy looking and surly as their livestock, and to be called a "nerf herder" (as Han Solo is by Princess Leia) is considered a strong insult.

Most people around here tend to use the term nerf in place of 'rebalance for the benefit of all' ;)

Jokes, sorry. Its not a benefit for all, its a benefit for some. The reason some people get pissed when shit gets nerfed is because it wasn't beneficial for them

That's because there's a group of people who would rather play a horribly unbalanced game where everyone is invincible supermen, or something of the like. Those of us who don't fail at judging gameplay would be most disappointed if the game's difficulty were dropped as far as some of the more vocal folks would prefer.
Another side effect of the amount of boosting that would make your group happy would be the complete invalidation of grouping. If you want a single player game where you can become godlike try out Morrowind, I hear the spell creation system can be exploited to do all sorts of lovely things.

Or hell, maybe Progress Quest would be more suitable for the lot of you ;)

Characters should be stronger, and bosses should also be stronger.
You cant say "OMG HE SOLOES CALRIAN LETS NERF EVERYTHING"

Of course you are a "Superman" when you fight a rat, but you want to feel that you are getting stronger once you level.

Wont buffing both ourselves and our enemies just get us back to where we are now?

Exactly, this way, if someone can find the equipment, (or be given the equipment) they are 5x more powerful then before. This is all a cleaver plan to help lvl 10's beable to solo bosses that should be for lvl 20 or someone who is lvl 20 beable to solo zones like lodagond-1.

I think I speak for ... atleast myself when I say Rusty Shortsword ftw? - Not really, but I do appriciate the nerfs

I think i was level 18 the first time i ran Loda, Died i think 4 times the entire way through, and i was actually active.. Then again all i did was evade enemies while shooting at them with the Heavy Xbow but atleast i contributed and didn't just hide and wait for the loot. bosses were kind of fun to evade while shooting at though.

Right, just like a level 5 can "Contribute" to Lodagond by running around hitting things with his Short sword for 3 damage.

Um, actually I'm pretty sure i was doing 300+ on certain enemies with the bolts I was using. The part of trying to level my magic at the beginning of loda-4 while having never really done magic was like running around with a level 5 with a shortsword.

Well, suggesting a level 18 character can hold his own on a level 40 map, does rather work against the idea that the game is too hard.

Part of the problem is the folks complaining about the "nerfs" are the least affected by them. None of the core team whine members are under 35, and very few, if any, of the extended members are under level 30. These folks only have two maps that can provide a challenge for them (indeed, only one map, by some of their own testimonies), yet they seem to be suggesting the game is too hard.

When J-M drove Evaan out of here by raving against his level requirement implementation for weapons, for instance, he knew full well it was not going to affect his character in anyway, as unlike you and me, he absolutely refuses to start over to experience the game anew. Thus, even with no stake in it himself, he put together a movement that drove out both Evaan and Gaz just from the shear amount of whining that ensued - costing us the last two members of the original dev team. Just on the general principle, that the game in which he was already a god, was "too hard".

Another example is when they managed to get our best mapper to join them - when he was only level 25 - thus costing us his art. He hadn't hit a level wall nor experienced any of the complaints they had, but was merely persuaded by the lies TW told him. We've since got him back, largely due to the fact that he's now actually reached that wall, he realizes it isn't all that bad, and very necessary.

The self-perpetuating issue that high level characters that refuse to start over tend to cause (and I'm glad you are not among them), is that said high level characters have nothing better to do than to grief. There's only one, maybe two maps that can even slow them down at the moment, so, if they refuse to make alts, the only thing they can do is go around twinking, bringing more characters up to their own level more quickly, causing a lovely snowball effect. (Not all high level players turn to such destructive behavior, mind you, but certainly everyone on tw does.)

This is why I keep telling our mappers "we need high level maps nao!" - but it's also why, making it easier to level is not an option until we have those new maps - as having everyone at the level wall just exasperates the problem, and makes it neigh impossible for new players to join the community. Lifting that level wall would only accelerate that situation.

Now, as the world expands the level wall will rise - as it has (already having doubled, from 20 to 40, in the past three years or so). Player power will continue to increase, as it always has (for every "nerf" you can name, you can name at least 100 "ubers" you've been given). Nerfs are few and far between, but new advantages come out with every patch, and the balance has always been heavily in the player's favor, regardless of what new baddies we've stuck in.

I'm pretty sure tw (consisting of Thothie, Borya, Sabre, and others) should stop complaining so much about people who simply wish to voice their opinions about a modding community they've been with for years now. Especially when their precious wall is one they bark at and receive no response from (notice the lack of posts from those you continue to put down, and who have gotten over this debacle).

I'll give it a 3/10, nice try though.

All lies, since when do we want to kill the game just because we want to express ourselves?
From what i know we have the liberty of expression no matter what you tell us. It's not because someone wishes to ignore most of the community who still play/appreciate the game that will make things better. You all are worried about "Oh sh!t, some guys are trying to drive away devs (which i do believe it's not true at all in most cases)", and then i think this way "Oh sh!t, the devs are driving away most players i know and used to play with the things they come up with". Now if you think wisely, you will end up thinking on this: "Hmmm, this community is turning into a ghost town", whenever that pops up in your minds you will notice why it's happening? The lack of players in the community and all this fighting bs between dev's and players...

All this chit-chat doesnt need to keep on going, do whatever you feel with your game and see the results for yourself, ignoring a part of the community wont help at all on it's survival. :|

Yeah, you can say that, and it's fine, but really now...Do we really want to listen to incessant b!tching? Likewise, do you want to?

It's a vicious cycle. I'm sure the developers and the community could get along but someone is always around to chide in and start a sh!tstorm...Fun fact, no one on the dev team is making sh!tstorm threads, ergo it falls to the community to not stir the pot...But someone always wants to.

The devs are not alienating the community. The alienation is being reciprocated between the two parties.

And no, nerfing is not the developers ignoring you, it's game balancing, and if you don't like it...Well, you didn't pay for this mod, did you?
