Doing exactly what franky200 instructed works for me. Delete everything in the \Half-Life\ folder except for of course the \msc\ folder and then unzip the contents of his archive to the \Half-Life\ folder.
No mouse issues, no missing DLL popups.

Might have to do it while Steam is closed though, I don't know. And maybe disabling the Half-Life updates before doing the above steps is also a good idea.

Thanks, franky200! :D :D

It seems that deleting everything in your half-life folder (except for mods or important dll files that some mods need) and replacing it with my patch fixes the annoying mss32.dll problem.
Ya know, if you've managed to rig up a combination that both fixes the mouse and fps issues, and doesn't bring up the mss32.dll error, zip that puppy up and upload it somewhere (the half-life root files, and the valve and platform folders should be enough). If I get the same results on both MSC systems here, I'm real tempted to say "**** it", and integrate that build into a patch, as I can't trace the fubar DLL for the life of me, and I don't see Valve fixing this anytime soon. The legacy Half-Life department likely risks their jobs if they admit they've done anything wrong.

Thats what I did with above patch ^ I don't think you can fix it without deleting something.

This is a little off topic, but I like how in the thread Thothie posted on the Steam forums askin' about any other possible solutions, there's someone claiming there are no issues, and vehemently defending that 'fact'...

That's pretty typical... At least they didn't ban this account for asking, like they did when I asked for solutions to the protocol 49 change.

Yeah, and I was being a lot kinder then... I suspect the solution that I and one of the NS/AMX'ers came up with may have been a perceived as a security risk, as Metatron was banned as well. ...But I was being a lot nicer about it there than I am here - aside from a funny pic, at least.

Meh... Screw being nice. That thread doesn't seem to be going anywhere... I'm putting in the Christopher Donner rant, and see if they ban me.

Say, any idea why I keep seeing people praising the update? Did anything actually good in any way, shape, or form come from this patch? Are any of the fixes in the patch notes even for things that were an issue before they started screwing with things?

Just blind young fanboys and shills... Not one good thing came out of this update. I mean, they did add v_sync - but most of us were doing that through our graphic drivers. Half-life for Linux, half-works, and rumor has it that this update has something to do with the Linux port, but I don't see how that'd affect our mouse movement, or require a folder structure change in the Windows port.

Well, darn, cuz that's what I did too... Still, if you got it working - if you can zip up those files, maybe I can figure what the difference between the builds I have here and what you have there be.

I can rig the NSIS installer to delete stuff, if need be - though if it comes to that, I think I'd want it separate from the MSC installer, as it'd be affecting all your Half-Life mods... Unlike Valve, I kinda have second thoughts about doing that to folks. (Just wish there was some other way.)

This is a combination of the new and old hl
runs perfectly without any errors
Ew... Tis a messload of files... But if it works maybe I'll see about making a self installing "fix Half-Life" patch...

...If the existing files need to be deleted to ensure it works, it'll be a bit sticky... Not sure if NSIS has a wildcard function that'll delete all the files in a directory without also removing the subfolders.

edit: blah, still gives me the mss32.dll error... Though I've not yet tried it with a stripped install first (just dropped it on top of my current install).

Dridje you need to delete everything except mods in the Half-life folder then paste whatºs insde the Half-life folder of that ZIP.
If it doesn't work like that hell, no idea then.

I've worked up a fix (if you don't have your original installation) and it seems to work (according to Darkangel) but it gives a weird error.

Code:
Was not possible to locate point of entry of the procedure _RIB_Alloc_provider_handle@4 on the DLL (dynamic-link library) mss32.dll.

You get it when you start the game and when you join a server.

But anyways if you just press ok to get past the errors it works fine, here's the link:

EDIT: I found a fix for the mss32.dll problem, after you backup your folders, delete everything but your mod folders, and then install the patch and it should fully downgrade without any problems.

I haven't played since 2010, or so, and I'm back to only fall into these issues. :oldangry:

You two have figured it out, thank you. It is fixed now.

I'd also double check that your <username>/half-life folder has been moved/deleted as well... And I'd disable Steam starting with Windows (settings->[Interface], uncheck "Run Steam when my computer starts"), and reboot, before deleting stuff, just to make sure Steam isn't reserving any files.

Obviously I need to make an NSIS installer that does all this, although I dunno of a way to force a Half-Life update.

edit: And I was just reminded when installing this patch, yet again, it is VERY important to exit Steam before doing any of this.

I would also like to point out that if you do not have the half-life.gcf from the older version (since HL doesn't use the GCF anymore.) the patch wont work. So if you recently installed HL after the game-breaking update then my fix won't work.

Eh, it has to still be using the half-life.gcf, as the new valve folder doesn't include all the half-life media used by MSC. :\

I'll have to fiddle with that, but if it really is the case, gah... It'd make creating a Half-Life patch fix a lot more troublesome - and a lot more illegal (having to include the entire Half-Life library and media, rather than just a few DLLs).

So i also got shitloads of problem with this uppdate. Including all Halflife games/mods.

running on Win7 64bit.

The first thing that occourd to me was the "green screen" When i start the game i first see the original screen for like 1 sec then it turns out all green on screen. i tried to use commands in console while in this green screen but it dosent take any commands. not even "quit" :O
I found a fix for this on valves forums.
Go into the game properties > set launch options > set it to "-nofbo" So this took away the green screen.

Now i can normaly normaly join a server and select my char with no problem. but next problem i noticed.
When going into the inventory menu i can select things but i cant dubbelpress them to take em out in my hands. also mouse tries to go into the center of screen all the time. only way to close the menu seems to be rapidly pressing my mouse and bring the mouse up aginst the close option fast.
Mouse problem in all menues, even main menu now :(

Also another thing i noticed is that the charset got changed. cant find my questionmark key anymore lol:p
I guess the charset change might mess up allot of things in the game?

I probolly find some more shit, just started testing.

Yeah, you'll probably have to use the fix linked yonder: http://filesmelt.com/dl/HLold3.zip as described above...

Still not gotten around to seeing if we really need the entire GCF's contents on a fresh install, so I know if we can make an automated patch without going into ridiculousville.
