Made some fixes, morc spawn works perfect now and the wpoly count stays below 900 through the entire map.

YOU DONT GOT TIME TO MAKE A PROFILE

Take Crow's orc place: 1300+ WPOLY, massive lag
What about Crow's sky castle: 2000+ WPOLY, uber lag
(not trying to portray Crow as a bad mapper here, his maps rock, he just needs to do some optimization)

Muahahahaha

On a whim I decided to completely redo the morc camp today. This new version of it both plays and looks better. Screenshots posted on page 1. I also updated the description on page 1 (map is quite different now), this will give you a better idea of what to expect 9/14.

Finished the entire upper map yesterday, been working on cavern entities since then. Still shooting for a release date of the 14th but its gonna be close. I am considering letting out a pre-release for the 14th through the 21st. During that period any bugs, performance issues, or playability issues can be posted about here and then fixed for a final release on the 22nd.

Ok, the three regions that make up the Frozen Summit are connected and I have a working .bsp. I will be running final tests and fine tuning the map for the rest of today. Tommorow it will be released on time with the new Beta Update, I will link the download on page 1.

Feedback is highly appreciated, let me know what you like and don't like about this map. More of the former if at all possible .

Edit: LAWL CONGRATULATIONS ON RELEASING IT (seriously)! I heard it's hella tough, so I gotta play it

Keep an eye on my first page post, I have updated the .bsp and may do so again if any other problems are found.

Also: If you are re-downloading the installer, DELETE THE OLD ONE FIRST. Otherwise you will get an error.

Avoozl, today I had my first serious attempt at the frozen summit (when I tried playing the map two days ago, the lag was just too bad, so I left).

I was playing with four or five other dudes, and when we killed Talnorgah, nothing happened. I didn't know what the plan was, but everybody was like "it bugged", and no chest appeared either.

So we restarted the map, went to the Orc amp again, and started killing Orcs. But at a certain point, they just stopped spawning.

Then we all got pissed off and went to the dangerous pass.

Fix this map, please. I have the latest version, but there is obviously something wrong here.

I've people making to the Ice Queen on my server fairly regularly, but it is possible for too much CPU lag to prevent morcs spawning. Maybe wise to give that trigger_counter a buffer. This could be done with ripent so people don't have to re-DL. I am willing to include ripent fixes for custom maps in my ripent map updates, since it's so small.

JM- Make sure the developer mode is off on your server, adds a lot of lag.

EDIT:
I went into the map looking to disable the transitions (too many players attempting to use them) - but I noticed that the trigger_counters are setup wrong. They are designed to be fired by the fireallpersih of the monsterspawns instead of by the death of individual monsters- so I could see where that could easily bugger out.

Fixing that via ripent, while possible, is a bit tricky. Avzool - if you could fix that via an -entsonly compile I'll add the changed ENT file to the map updates so the servers can fixie. This would require that you have not added or removed any brush entities from the last release though (I'm not sure if I have the most current source for ms_snow)

edit2: Also the ice lord's chest2 trigger will be more dependable if you tie it to his death via killtarget, rather than to fireallperish on his monsterspawn (indeed, I'd just avoid using the fireallperish in general)

DblpostFTW - If ya can't wait that long, J-M - since you know how to ripent maps, try this:

http://www.thothie.com/msc/ms_snow.ent

That's my fix there. I've not actually tried it out (it'd take me too much time to test) - so if you could test it, please do.

I'm thinkin I shoulda moved the morc chest to the chief's death... But instead it works the same way it did (ie. all three parts of the chief's wave are dead).

Trigger counters have a "just in case" buffer of 1 morc ea. So, I suppose there's a chance that the chest could spawn while everyone but the chief was dead. (I'm not sure if he tends to be the last survivor or not) [ EDIT: Yes, he does tend to be, played with it, decided best to move to orc_chief's death, ent file changed accordingly ]

If you tell me that works out, I'll add it to the map patches, and re-do the various uploads. (install package and content server) I'm running it on my server too.

edit: Other ripents for custom maps I'm doing:
- Orcplace2_beta: Making that door conditional on the forward orcs dieing, and making chair trigger more dependable (downside: chair may move before chief is dead)
- Skycastle: Hope to remove the skeleton sploit at beginning (not started on it yet)
- Keledrosprelude2: The sploit on this map should already be semi-fixed by something I did to the bandits - tell me if it isn't.

TRIPPLE post ftw...

Damnit... Well, I fixed Orcplace and Skycastle, but Stormshift just brought it to my attention that RIPENT CANNOT HANDLE MS_SNOW. >< If you try to use ripent with that ent file though, you get a corrupt map.

BSP_EDIT handles it fine, but I've no way to automate BSP_edit (sfaik it does not take parameter commands). *sigh* I dunno what to do. Can't believe that ZHLT hasn't fixed this limitation after all these years. I'll look for some alternative, I suppose. I dunno what HLCSG -onlyents will do if I feed it an ent file... worth a shot I guess.

EDIT: Wow... HLCSG -onlyents can take a raw ent file, and knows what to do with it. Well, that fixes that issue. Map works fine like that. *shrug* Guess we'll stick HLCSG into the update system and hope no one needs the VS8 libraries.

Admittedly, typed far to much to read there - just head to the map updates, fix is there. The above tripple post simply regails you with the tale of the perilous journey that lead to the fix. ;)
